still waiting for 3840 to arrive in England, but I had an email from an old pal today remembering his Italian spanner man who used to work on Italian stuff 30 years ago, who said that a Ferrari you drove wid your head, the Maserati you drive wid your heart, and the pantera you drive wid your backside, only then you know where its a going, apparently power without control was written in the pantera handbook, I hope they're wrong!!!

Personally, my interpretation of those quotes simply means that the Pantera is unlike the other Italian supercars of the era.

Because of it's big ugly "Detroit" power, you can steer the car with the throttle.

The Pantera definitely handles but maybe if you are more into driving with Gucci loafers and Italian racing scarfs you would happier with a Ferrari?

There certainly isn't anything wrong with that at all. I like those too. They are just out of character in a Pantera. At least my Pantera or vision of it?

Detomaso was somewhat of a rogue himself and I think being ostracized by Ferrari and Maserati for "prostituting" the car with "an engine that should power irrigation pumps" maybe to Detomaso made it just right. Until he had to deal with Henry Ford himself, then he suddenly turned into an Italian Nationalist? roll on floor

I almost see torment in his eyes in the picture of him standing next to the Pantera in front of the Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn.

I see what is being squeezed into a mold almost artificially into a polished street car then I look at the brute that is unleashed in the factory Gp4 race car. Which is the real concept? I do have my own opinion of that and I lean towards the racer as the true car.

If you look at the 427 Cobra, it is similar. The street version is polished and fit into this clean street "sportscar" then you look at the same car in race trim, and it is like Dr.Jekle and Mr.Hide. I think the Pantera has this in common with the Cobra.

You can see the muscles of the Pantera loosely concealed and ready to burst into the Hulk at any instant?

All of this suits me just fine. All I have to do is choose the vehicle in which to enjoy the ride and be amused by all of the players? It's quite a show.

If you find me with my car at someone's Italian Car Day show, I guaranty it's just because I'm there to pick at the food and see what kind of single, unattached "ladies" have shown up to check out the "cars", and check them out too. Wink

To me. The scenario is theater and great fun as well. Oh, and the car is pretty neat too. You'll love yours. Big Grin
grand news the ship MSC Alabama ( which lost quite a few containers overboard recently ) docked in Felixstowe England last sunday, the car was unloaded today and is now ready for collection. Just a trailer to sort out tomorrow and its an early start on Wednesday morning.

After reading the sorry tale of the white pant era buy that went so askew I am hoping for a better outcome. being a world away from the New World so to speak its always a bit of a shot in the dark buying from a company that your not familiar with and also from a bunch of photographs as well, hoping the battery and tyres aren't flat, and a successful outcome, will post pics as soon as I recover from the 500+ mile trip, Its an amazing thing you know the power of these vehicles that I haven't yet set eyes on, its turned me from a 67 year old crusty old Git into a 17 year old, well for a few days anyway, Geronimo!!!

Hello Mark I should be in bed now and be ready for an early start tomorrow but I had a gander at your web site, only briefly though it looks very well done (wouldn't know where to start) what was the reason that you changed your original Campagnolo wheels for the more modern "polished" ones, safety or cosmetics or ???
your pantera looks stunning too

Thanks Peter. It was initially a little of both because I didn't like the "skinny" original wheels and, after two years of searching, wasn't having much luck finding a set of 10" wide Campys. When I saw those 17" ones I bought them instead. One big factor was they were shod with new Pirelli P-Zero tires which were much stickier than my cars original tires. When doing road trips that involve spirited or high-speed driving I often use those wheels. Most of the time however the car runs on the 15" (with 10" wide rear) wheels that I found a few months after I got the polished 17" ones. I like having different shoes for different occasions and like both looks.

Can’t wait to see your car. Safe trip!

Mark
