I just got a VW Camper and traced a power steering leak to the metal lines that run along the frame rails from front to back. Can I just cut out the bad stretch and put rubber hoses there with regular hose clamps? Are either of the lines high pressure, or will I be OK?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks for replying ROVER.

The engine with power steering pump is in the back and the rack is in the front. There are only short rubber hoses at each end. The line that's leaking is the metal tube that runs the length of the vehicle. Replacement metal lines are not available.

Some of the lines at the back are regular hose with regular clamps. It looks like one of the metal lines has a similar repair with a regular piece of hose and clamps and it's not leaking.

Are you saying that they should make up a rubber hose that runs from front to back?

Mike the simplest an cheapest is to figure out the size steel line and go to an autoparts store and get steel tubing .. see if they have large enough sort of brake line tubing .. your probably talking 3/8od ... and then make it up with fittings to adapt to the existing hose ...OR if you want measure the size and I can hook you up with what you need. One of those lines is under high pressure and the other is a return low pressure.
