Just meself bought a 1976 GTS...

Great day out, fabulous weather. Car performed really well, though 1st gear is a bu66er to find - must be a knack there somewhere!

The engine is extraordinary. Idles at about 500rpm, and can pull away cleanly in 5th gear doing about 15/20mph. Ride is very smooth, I suspect because of the high profile tyres and softer olde worlde suspension. Brakes are very squishy, but the front lines were replaced a few days ago and probably need bleeding again. Very slow compared with the TVR, but that will all change... Cool Steering pretty responsive, but I think it needs tightening up a tad. But a really easy car to drive, with all that low down torque...

Wife said: "I like the car, but can we change the colour?" No, dear, we can't. The paintwork is immaculate and I ain't forking out £4000 to have it sprayed a different colour, especially as you will complain about it being noisy, hot, blah blah blah... and won't want to go in it anyway!

Yup, upgrades are on the cards. First I will clean and waxoyl the chassis, redo the interior of the rear wheel arches as they look tatty (not rusty or anything, just need redoing).

Then upgrade brakes and suspension and strengthen the chassis.

Then the motor will come out, engine bay will be scraped back to bare metal and resprayed, and then will either upgrade the existing engine and replace the exhaust or get a new engine (and replace the exhaust.) I need to strip out some serious weight from the car as it weighs almost 50% more than my TVR, and even with the engine running as it does it is pretty sluggish... As little dead weight cast iron as possible me thinks! But NOT the expense of an ali block!
