It has been 24 hours and 42 minutes since I smoked a cigarette.

I quit because "I feel that I am just not feeling as healthy as I should".

I never used to understand how people who had quit their addictions could name how many days, months and sometimes hours since they last did it.

Now I know.

I am sucking Commit lozenges. They really make smoking cigarettes undesirable.

We'll see what happens. I quit once before for about 8 years and then fell off the wagon.

My deceased father used to smoke 3 packs of non-filtered cigarettes a day. I am not surprised that my body craves them.

Keep up the good work four walling. I've tried to quit numerous times but have never made it more than 45 days. Per D&D's post above I've been told not to try to quit under stressful conditions (wife's pregnancy in his case) but the last time I quit about a year & a half ago we decided to close our small business after 37 years - can you say STRESS! Good luck & I hope to be right behind you soon.

I can relate. I started at age 15 and started feeling guilty in my 20's. I promised myself I would quit at 30...then 35.. I looked at myself in the mirror at age 40 and asked myself "how can I quit" I got the Zyban and took it daily.. on day 10 I forgot to smoke. It made me feel like a different person and I kept thinking about numbers. 24 hours 7 days etc. I figured if I bought houses and rented them I could have them paid for in 10 years. I got 8 paid off now. I have been clean for 10 years. It is worth the misery. Go 4 wallin, YOU can do it.

The next time you want a smoke picture this....Your bending over the bathroom throne, bald headed, weighing so little it hurts to sit because you have no ass, and retching so violently your stomach muscles ache like you just did a thousand sit-ups, then you try to get up but you are to weak so you crawl back to bed. The nasua lasts for two days straight and you go thru this every three weeks for 33 months. Thats chemo!!! The upside is that thirty years later you can try to help someone else avoid the same damn thing. You CAN do this and it will be worth it. I promise. John
I smoked for only ten years. When I quit it was very hard, but I knew two things and I always kept reminding myself of them every time I wanted a smoke. Number one: I knew I didn't want to smoke any more... Number two: I wasn't going to go through the suffering of quitting just to eventually pick up another smoke and have all that suffering for nothing. It cost's a guy much discompfort to quit, make this the last time you suffer. Hang in there!!...
One word for you "ZYBAN"!!!!!!!!!
15 years of the smoke devil and it was the ONLY thing that made me quit. I tried everything and nothing worked until Zyban. REMEMBER THIS.....IT WORKS BETTER AFTER THE FIRST ATTEMPT.
I tried it the first time and I smoked even more than ever. I stopped and waited 1 month and tried it again. It worked 100% THE SECOND TIME. After 3 days of Zyban, I've never even had an urge to smoke. Yep, not even when I get stressed ( which is often), or when I drink (which is often ) or after I have sex ( with a partner, which is rare).
Give it a try. It changed my life.

For now (fingers crossed) the 4mg Commit tablets are doing the trick.

At the risk of sounding corny, I am most motivated by the posters on this thread who are still smoking. If I can quit, there is hope for you all.

Yes, I had some wild dreams while taking it. Zyban was originally created as an anti-depressant.
I'd rather have a few weeks of wild dreams instead of cancer.

Dude, good luck with your efforts. I used to manage our County tobacco use program funded by CA smokers like you. There is alot to this stuff, addiction and more importantly behavior modification. You can't just treat this by a pill or patch, you have to work on the behavior modification. Contact your SD county tobacco prevention program, they could provide you with info. You paid for the program in CA with your cigs, so take advantage of it. Applying behavior modification tips are the key with this or dieting or any habitual activity. Most people fail not realizing or applying the tips avaliable. Will power, patch/pills, scare tactics, initial enthusiasm, etc just don't help in the long run, belive me. Those things always work initially, but those tactics ware off over time which is one of the main reasons people fall back. Call your county for some reading material if you don't want class sessions. There are easy techniques to learn that will help you.

2 weeks and a few hours as of today and I am still onboard. About 10 days ago, I took about 4 hits off of a cigarette, put it out quickly, and haven't smoked since.

DOES200's post hit me right between the eyes. Some kind of behaviour modification will be needed when the Commit lozenges run out.

But, for now, I am hanging in there..
I dropped a bad habit 10 years ago this upcoming New Year's Eve. For years I had the most realistic dreams that I did it again, and felt disappointed in myself everytime. Sometimes it took days before I realized that it was just a dream! (That's how real it seemed.)

I'd say your in normal territory. Hang in there, and don't ever go back!

Keep in there. Im soon 36, and have now been smokefree over 3 years (this august) after smoking for more than 10. Personally I had less problem than my wife when she quit, but looking back, I think that is a pure MENTAL thing. She had her habbits of smoking when she was on the phone, so when she was on the phone she almost lost her mind looking for a cigarett. I smoked more unregulary, so when I felt for a smoke, I just went outside to do something different than sitting and feeling the need.. For a few weeks I had a perfectly lawn..

Strange, as I write here there is an interview on TV on this topic. He says that for a regular to big smoker, the period the body need to "detox" is apr. 10 days, and after that, when you start to think of a smoke you create a false need (mental need). To overcome that need you need to activate yourself for ONLY 2-4 minutes to let the brain overcome that need. That is only a short walk around the block or something.

I had a few weeks of this mental thing, but as I realiced it was my head that was the problem, and not bodily needs, I came to the point that "I will not let my mind mess with me now" and in some way I allmost lost the lust for smoke in an instant. I know I will newer go back to smoking. AND THAT IS EASY! Just dont buy smoke.
