Its going to depend upon how well set up the 'Cuda's chassis is. If he's got sticky rubber, traction bars, etc, he can go much quicker than the car did in when it was new. If the chassis is stock, if the tires are Dunlop or BF Goodrich 15" tires, then no problem.

Stock those cars just spin tires all day long, they can't harness their potential due to the limitations of the chassis and tires.

cowboy from hell
I can attest to the ZF not like speed shifting. If I speed shift over 5000 rpm, it grinds as it goes into gear on 2nd and 3rd. If I am at lower rpm or take a little more time, it is fine.

540hp at the crank will give you about 410 at the wheels. I can tell you that my best quarter so far is an 11.8 at 132 with 450 hp at the wheels. So you should be in low 12s at least.

The other guys Hemi could run anywhere from high 9s to high 12s depending on gearing, HP, and tires. I suspect if he built it as a street driver (crate motor) and is running some kind of 17inch radials, then it will be a good race.
3.54's? Don't worry about a thing. I don't care if it's powered by a nuclear reactor.
It might not even make it into the 14's with those gears. All it will do is stand and spin the tires.

For ANYTHING to get down into the 11's or 12's you are going to have to run at least a 4.88:1.

That's actually what holds back the Pantera. The 4.22's are too low with a 2.20 first gear to run in the 12's.

If there was a 4.80 ZF rear, which there is not, it would be about right.
A lot of amateur races come down to who's the best driver rather than who has the best equipment.
If you know how to drag race...time the lights, rev to the right RPM to get the power down without too much spin or bogging down, and can shift your ZF quick and smooth, you're gonna win. If he's a better racer than you, then you're toast.
You may want to do some experimenting before you race him. Figure out your best technique off the line. That wins more friendly drag races than anything.

Compared to trannies set up for drag raceing, yes, it is like a glacier. If you really want a quick Pantera, you will have to ditch the ZF and get a powerglide set up from B&M racing for your car. You may also want to invest in disposable drag engines too, as they only last one year, IF you are lucky. Oh yeah, tube frame, fiberglass replica body, wrinkle wall slicks, drag chute. Before you know it you could have just bought that cuda off that guy instead of raceing him for pink slips.

Per.....so the zf is slow ??

I'll say the mopar will run a 14.25 and the Pantera will run a mid 12 to 13 unless your a really good drag race driver in the Pantera. Traction will be a problem for both cars.

Wait a minute I just saw this, DT there are no Trannies in Drag Racing!

What do they do? Dress up in their purple pumps and scratch the eyes out of the bitch that one?

No Doug, it is the Pantera itself that is in drag. Fiberglass body, tube frame chassis, painted on radiator opening. Funny cars don't even look like cars anymore. Neither do pro-stock. They look like toys or NASCAR cars. The only way you can tell if it is a chebby or ford is the decal painted on the body somewhere.
