No, the Part #'s above do not look like Baby Turbos. I e-mailed a photo of some Baby Turbos to a Pantera Guy with a real European GT5 and asked him what the Vitaloni mirrors looked like and if they resembled the photo of Baby Turbos. He e-mailed me back a pic of his GT5 w/ real Vitalonis. The REAL THING has a small oval looing bracket that attaches to the front top of the door, right by where the gap is when you open the door. Then the stalk holding the mirror has a bolt that attaches to bracket. The mirror sort of sweeps back from the stalk and the bracket. Very aerodynamic looking. I asked him to look up the part #'s because when I removed a mirror and rubber gasket there was about 5 holes drilled into the door where the last owner of #5201 kept changing his mind and drilling holes and putting new mirrors. And IMHO, after spending really BIG $$$ for all the rest of the stuff on and in the cat, I wanna make sure I get the mirror thing done RIGHT the first time. I'm gonna have to solder fill, or my body man is, and repaint both doors to do this. I'm not ready for the hi $$ paint yet, but I don't wanna ever be drilling holes for mirrors again. Swept back look. Not like the rectangular black plastic mirrors on every car at every stop light. Aerodynamic. Complimenting the sleek angles and curves of the Tjaarda styled body. Just like they were designed by Tjaarda for this specific machine and no other car.

So, now that I've demonstrated my passion and motive, I hope I've generated your intrigue. To the level, that you, or somebody helps me locate these specific mirrors.

What a shame to have all the hottest looking Panteras with mirrors that just insult the body style of the car. Just like the radiator, this is one of the things that the factory didn't get right, but there's a fix, and a great fix.

Thank you helping locate a vendor with Vitaloni mirrors. VIT5784, $18.99 each, flat mirror & VIT 5783, $19,99 each, wide angle. The price certainly isn't keeping us from the hunt is it? Right Style mirror for any Pantera, IMHO. Same price as Pep Boys, the one with the bellows, accordian covering the bracket. We only like to drill holes in the Pantera body work ONCE!
I have a set of brand new "baby turbo" mirrors that I purchased for my now sold Ferrari Boxer. I couldn't decide which mirrors to go with so I purchased different kinds. I ended up using the "california" style. The baby turbos are unmounted, brand new with brackets. If interested email me at ziggymeredith@insightbb.com. $70 for the set and I will pay shipping in the US.
I just bought a pair of "Baby Turbos" from JC Whitney and I've already committed to them, and I'll never install them! If interested, I'll let them go for $12 plus shipping and eat the loss. You tell me how to ship to save time or money!
www.jcwhitney.com

search part # 12ZZ7483X for a photo and description. Box will be unopened. I paid $27.70 which is $9.95 each X 2 + s&h.

Yeah right, Ferrari Boxer, who changes mirrors off a Ferrari Boxer or any Ferrari, "these gotta go in the trash, these Ferrari mirrors are UGLY," happens every day!!!! Are we stupid!!! Register or go play games with your profit motive somewhere else idiot!!!
Thanks anyway Jim, I appreciate your response. I'm gonna spend what ever it takes to get EXACTLY what I want. I'm not gonna put anything on the 'vent' windows. Glue on, screw on, or slide-in and secure with moulding. This MUCH more IMPORTANT than a polished ZF or 500+ H.P.!

I've been researching the "mirrors" issue for months now and there is only one solution, and ALL the Pantera Vendors DO NOT HAVE WHAT I'M AFTER. No glue on's that are not quite horizontal and will be dated in 5 years. No Baby Turbos that look like they are from Pep Boys, Auto-Zone, Checker Auto, Kragen, NAPA, etc.

ONLY ITALIAN VITALONI VIT-5784 & VIT-5783, (1) each, NOTHING ELSE. Mounted at the very front of the door, right by the bottom of the windshield, with the swept back look like to many times at 200mph bent the stalk back in that position. I'M NOT TOO CHEAP TO GET THE BODY WORK DONE AND GET THE RIGHT LOOK, RIGHT THE 1st TIME!

NO COMPROMISES ON MY PANTERA. After all the time, money, work on the engine, chassis, interior, body, WELL I'M NOT GONNA SETTLE FOR AN EASY FIX ON THE MIRRORS!!!!! EVEN IF I GOTTA PAY $1,000 ON EBAY, I'M GONNA GET THE LOOK RIGHT. AND IF I EVER GOTTA SELL, IT'LL BRING IN AN EXTRA $5K 'CAUSE IT LOOKS RIGHT!!! AN ITALIAN THOROUGHBRED AND NOT CHEAP!!!! EXPENSIVE & WORTH IT!!!!! STYLE: Which is why we love these and all Italian
Automobiles, it certainly ain't for the gas mileage or low purchase price!

LIKE A GIRL WALKING DOWN THE STREET NAKED, MY PANTERA DROPS PEOPLES' JAWS & CHEAP MIRRORS make a Pantera look like a ONE-PIECE-WITH-RUFFLES-AROUND-THE-WAIST-BATHING SUIT.

Not on my Pantera, I'll sooner do without mirrors than disgrace the sexy design with a ONE-PIECE-RUFFLES-AROUND-THE WAIST bathing suit design. This cat has done the gym work-outs and doesn't fall in that category. May as well tie the towel around the waist too!!

Can ANYONE HELP find what is the RIGHT MIRRORS for the Pantera? Not really open to alternative suggestions. My girl wears a bikini and is sexy or I go to the beach or lake solo and look for something sexy to bring home!!! Chick magnets, with high $$$ in them at least deserve the sexiest mirrors available. End of story. No compromises, no disappointments. Effort equals results, I'm not a me-too kind of guy, too bad.
Mr.Norman
First, those "baby turbo" mirrors you purchased at Whitney are made in China knock-offs. You can buy them at your local Autozone as well. The ones I have are Vitaloni from Italy.
As for your reference to me BS-ing about my Ferrari. You can view pictures of it as well as the Pantera that I had traded to get it for in my Yahoo albums http://photos.yahoo.com/ziggymeredith
You can clearly see that it has no side mirrors which made merging into traffic very difficult. Baby Turbos and California style were the types of Vitaloni that were put on Boxers so I purchased both and decided to go with California.
I paid $80 for the two and they are brand new original Vitaloni. I could care less if you don't want them, but don't call me a liar looking to make $30 off a pair of JC Whitney knock-offs.
Mr. Norman
Just because I am currently not registered, doesn't mean that I have not been on this forum for years. In fact, I purchased my Pantera off of a classified here almost 3 years ago. I traded it for the Ferrari back in March of this year. Your assumptions and name calling only make you look like a fool.
All,

I have emailed Mr. Norman, off list, to request he not repeat his tirade against Doug, or anyone else. Should he repeat, my email will be to Mark, the moderator.

And Ron, COULD YOU PLEASE STOP SHOUTING??

(Upper case letters are the web equivalent to shouting, in case you didn't know).

Flame suit on :-)

Larry
Thanks Larry'
From my post I couldn't see what I said to deserve the bashing and name calling.

BTW, Mr.Norman
If you look at the Pantera GT5 road tests from Car&Driver(Aug '84), Road & Track(June '84) and Motor Trend(Dec.'84), you will clearly see that all of them tested cars with the "baby turbo" style mirrors which I assume are Vitaloni. Which kind are the original for the car? I really don't know. All I can say is that there is a brand new pair in my garage with mounting hardware that looks identical to the mirrors in the road tests above mentioned. They are also made in Italy, not China.

As a side note, Vitaloni's factory burnt to the ground over 1 year ago, original molds and all. Whether they decide to machine new molds for 30yr old mirrors when they rebuild is up to them. Until then, what you find in stock at Vendors is all you will see for awhile, or possibly forever. Good luck in your search for this "original" mirror that you describe or enjoy your bargain Whitney knock-offs.
One last thing Mr. Norman
If you look at the last picture of my old Ferrari Boxer at the above link, I put a pic of the "california" mirror that I installed. This sounds like the mirror you describe. Took me 3 months to find it, and it was double the price of the baby turbo. Good luck in your search.

Doug M.:

I apologize for the outburst. It would have been nice if you had simply said what is quoted above rather than using my inquiry as your forum to post an item for sale. Since you've been on this BB for 3 years, you know how to post an item for sale.
It would HAVE BEEN appropriate to tell all the interested readers WHERE you located the "California" style Vitalioni mirror(s).
Thank you for adding the info that the common name is "California" as I can use that in my search, as well as the part number.

Ron

Larry, you've added your 2 cents, but I think Doug can take care of himself. Thank you for being such a peace keeper. They can use some guys like you in Liberia right now. Oh, and the subject is where can the "California" style Vitaloni mirrors be purchased, and you haven't added any useful information. So, thanks for being around, keeping the peace. Ron
Just to let you know, the view sucks with the california mirror. I had to put on a "stick on" fish eye mirror on the mirror. Baby Turbo has better visibility range. I couldn't even imagine the visibility of the california with the flares of a GT5. All you will be able to see are your flares.
Mssrs.: grngt5, Doug M, and Jim,

I am persuaded that 'after a hard day at he office I went home and kicked the dog' and this syndrom is called transferred aggression. I apologise for being a fool, an a**, whatever you want to call me, well, I'm guilty.

See, here's my excuse. After wanting a Pantera for 30 years and finally getting one, and having only had it since mid-May, here's what's happened: (1) I've dumped more than $6K into this cat and the end is no where in sight; (2) I had a problem with one of my suppliers, no, make that a couple of my suppliers, and parts ordered were not delivered on time, and as specified; (3) I can not find what I want to purchase; (4) I've been sweating like a dog in this summer heat in my garage working on this cat, and nothing is as easy as I hoped and planned; (5) I waited for it to cool off and had a few beers while I was waiting for the garage temperature to get below 100 degrees; (6) everytime I work on the cat, I've gotta stop what I'm doing and go to Auto-Zone and get something I didn't anticipate I would need; (7) many times Auto-Zone does not have what I'm looking for, so I gotta wait 'til tomorrow to wait for NAPA to open; (8) many times NAPA sends me to the other NAPA store; (9) I can't afford to keep spending $3K per month or I'll lose my house; (10) even planning ahead does not insure I'll have what I want or need; (11) bolts are rusted in the holes or nuts are stripped; (12) my cat's been on the jack stands longer than she's been 'in service'; (13) no matter how determined I was, I would not be able to have the project completed within a month due to factors beyond my control; (14) you guys know what I'm talking about and have been through it yourselves, or will; (15) I love my Pantera, but she's being mean to me lately, but I know she'll always be there for me if I treat her right.

So, please accept humble 'eating of the crow' and let's all try to assist each other to reduce blatant incidences of Pantera Frustration, as we've all experienced or will experience, or continue to experience.

Owning a Pantera requires many virtues, including patience, which I have always been in short supply of.

And I would like to purchase the Vitaloni Baby Turbo mirrors, Jim, and I will wait a few days so you have a chance to see my public apology before e-mailing you. This is/was not my finest moment, but, thank God, I'm not a politician or public figure. We are just Pantera Guys who probably go through these frustrations sooner or later, and maybe some of us handle it better than others.

With humility, I submit this response,
Ron
I have e-mailed LF - Teach Peace that nobody else on the Pantera International Bulletin Board wears their POLITICAL PREFERENCES or AGENDA on their "handle" and that I believe he should change his name or I will e-mail the Administrator of the Bulletin Board.

And LARRY, could you please just go to a foreign Country like Liberia and "TEACH PEACE" and in the name of peace, I suggest you write everything you have to say in small letters, UNLESS you are teaching peace in Liberia.

My 2 cents worth. Add something or don't write, and don't comment.

I got another e-mail from LF-Teach Peace, and he and I have different philosophies of life. It was not hostile, but I will never see eye to eye with this man. What set me off this time with regards to this guy is he had the audacity to make a post with regard to a Cars For Sale new post and critiqued the guy's paint job! Bad manners. And after the first e-mail and commentary, plus the name with the Key Word "Teach" like he knows enough to teach all of us something, that just set me off. We are all free to have our own beliefs, political causes, etc, but this BB is sort of for the purposes of helping each other get our Panteras repaired, updated, upgraded, diagnosed, etc. Not to Teach Peace, or Critique other Pantera Guys' cars, or Police the Freedom of Speech we enjoy. Obviously, since he was looking at the car mentioned and mentioned he just bought a Pantera, well, obviously he is not in a position to critique or teach, as it were. When a guy has been ready to throw a wrench through the windsield, or buy another set of wrenches so he'll have several lost wrenches around the garage, like I did, or just gone through the frustration of a parts search for something that is no longer available, well, then he has won the respect to use the word teach in his name, vis-a-vis for purposes of postings on this BB. LF-Teach Peace may want to do some things to his Pantera and ask a question, but will I laugh, or will I give him the answer, should I be in such a position? That's what we will find out when the time comes, and I'll probably just give the guy the answer, despite what diffences of opinion we have, because others may read and benefit as well, and we'll see how he handles the frustration, when the time comes.

I wish I had more patience and the ability to just ignore BS, but I don't, but I will help cultivate the Pantera Attitude of helpfulness none-the-less.

Also I've had e-mail posts providing me with the answer to the original question, so, (1) don't worry about it; (2) there are people with great Pantera Attitudes who DO help; (3) I still think I may go with the Baby Turbos instead of the Californians, because (a) better visability; (b) availability should one come off my Pantera for some reason; (c) they look pretty doggone good on Mike Dailey's Pantera on his website, with the new photo he just posted.

So, please keep the info flowing and I will do the same, even w/ LF-Teach Peace. We can get along, but let's keep the subject on Pantera's, OK. I respect your right to have your views. And as you see, my mind is succeptable to persuasion as well, but I'm only interested in Panteras for our purposes here.

OK, I'm game. I got exactly what I wanted as several people contacted me directly, 'big guy.'

And you just made another useless lob of the banter-ball. Are you trying to be funny with your name Johnny Holmes? Don't read it if it's 'useless.' Simple enough.

But if you're gonna get into it, better wonder whether you're gonna get what you need when the time comes, New Guy with Suggestive Name.
I think we need a boxing ring area of this BB.

Ron I was just pointing out the shots being fired back and fourth made me laugh. I think everyone here could lighten up some. That inclueds MR. Peace!

I am not very new to the Pantera brotherhood!

Not sure what you meant about the pan. I am slow sometimes!

Pantera/WRX
I made John Holmes an offer for his 10 qt oil pan, and we 'talked'
Getting pretty far afield of Vitaloni mirrors, though. Oh, my Pantera project 'phase one' is finished and I've been able to drive it for about 9 days, so I'm a little less grumpy now. A little less, I'll be even less grumpy when I get my current mirror holes solder filled and the Vitaloni mirrors installed.
Ever done a Pantera project in the summer heat, when the garage is 110? Made 4 trips to the hardware store and 3 to the auto parts store in 1 day B/4? Tends to make me grouchy....
Sorry for the Low Ball offer Johnny. Perhaps e-bay wil bring you higher than new retail price, for instance that's been my experience, you'll get very close to original retail price from those who are not saavy enough to shop the deal in the first place. Whne the time comes to do the 10 qt oil pan project, I'll contact you, and, after researching the 10 qts., if it's a fair deal, and if there's no one in New Mexico with as good or better deal (gonna/gotta help out the local bretheren first and foremost), well, then, like I said, I'll contact you and pay, let's sy, pretty close to what your asking, (not gonna give up on the ole negotiating skills yet, 'til I goot have it, like when thenotor's out, but, than, maybe wanna go with a crate 351-W b/c of induction options. Tell you what, talkme into it, tell me what great fun I can have with the Aussie turbo inductions, you provide the 'good will' info, then, if the part is not sold, I'll pay your price and consider it the cost of education....

I'd be floating around the POCA Bd also, but get/got lost, can't seem to index the site, for where I wanna be for info I'm interested in or can contribute to... Can you or somebody explain the navigation system?

AGROVADR, thanks! it's just the Alfa Male Syndrome, we get along, but gotta chew on the other puppies ears to make sure they are still alive and suckling... :-)) Ever check out Robb Report of DuPont Registry?
