rear wheels vs. wheel arches

Hi,

i run quite big wheels 12x18 with 295/35 on the rear wheels, when i put the wheels on the car the first time i saw that the wheels are excentric to the wheel arches, it seems that the wheel is located to far (aprx. 1") towards the back of the car.

I checked pictures of other panteras and it seems that all panteras share the same problem, here is one example:

Basically the problem seems to be that due to the position of the engine and the transaxle the wheels have moved rearward because otherwise the drive shafts have a too big angle.

My question: Did anybody try to move the wheels forward (by changing the A-arms)? I have CV-joints on the drive shafts, so the angle shouldn't be an issue.

Mine have the same exentric position. Was considdering to move the wheel a bit to the front, since my car is lowered and as such the driveshaft points strait out, the angle to the front would be less than the original downward angle. Will correct this when I put on some Gr4 flares soon.

Thanks for the info. My car was completely disassembled, so currently there is no transaxle in the car so i can't figure out the angle of the drive shafts.

Anybody else here who has tried to move the wheels?

Anybody got a couple of lower a-arms for sale? I could keep the upper ones by changing the U-Joints.

I had never noticed that they were offcenter. I looked at a picture of mine and it appears that they are pretty well centered, at least the late model cars.

I suppose if you stare at anything long enough you can convince yourself that they are centered, or not centered, but I don't think mine are 1" off?
