The Alpine is an interesting story that is too long to tell here, and I don't know the whole story well enough to tell it without totally destroying it. They are a well known sports car in Europe, from their early days as a lightweight sports car to their later, more sophisticated versions that were a little heavier. Originally an independant manufacturer using Renault engines (kind of like DeTomaso with Ford) it was later purchased outright by Renault.
About 4 months ago I attended an event put on by the Basque Country Renault Alpine club. The A110 is actually rather expensive, and the A310's aren't exactly cheap either. The engine note is really pretty neat - it is from the era of all-mechanical-everything, carbs, cams, little muffling... I like the cars!
