I am getting meaningfully conflicting reports on r12 vs r134. While r134 is by far more economical a trusted mechanic advises that the r12 has a meaningful advantage in "cooling" capability. Particularly in an inefficient A/C system as we have in the Pantera. I would like to know the specific model and part # for the rotary units we can use.

My car is a GT5-S 1986. Can we change the dash blower fan from underneath the dash with consol removed? Gary Hall says you can, but I can find nobody who can confirm this.

R-12 has always been a much better AC fluid than any current substitute. A rotary compressor ups the efficiency of yor system a little, does not vibrate and is less than half the weight of the OEM compressor. The cabin of a Pantera is roughly the size of a mini-pickup truck, so a giant AC system is unnecessary IMHO. The blower fans & motor can, with extreme care, be removed without disturbing either the dash or console. But the 3 mounting screws are all but invisible, one is at extreme reach for normal hands, and once the thing is loose & worked out of there, you must then re-fit it without allowing the brittle squirrel-cage impellers to touch the housings at each end. It's possible to do for a limber, long-fingered mechanic familiar with the screws' locations, but for the average guy, it may be almost easier to remove the whole dash!
