What are the rules for pictures? I hope the Pantera pictures that shotgungrooms just kicked back to the top of the list don't get deleted! I read some of these topics a day or a week late sometimes and by then all I see is a red circle with a slash thru it.

Lots of guys spent lots of time downloading their Pantera pics and it's good for everybody. Owners see other guys rides and decide to do a project and spend money. Guys who want to maybe buy a Pantera someday can see what the differences in prices reflect in the types of Panteras available. I don't think if one day we look to see something we saw once before and all there is is a bunch of red circles, that everybody would reload images again. Seems like a balancing act, cost of memory, and for me, with an old computer at home, it takes a while to download high density pictures. So, may I suggest, to simply reduce image density rather than delete images. Maybe suggest that 'permanent' image files be kept for the "let's see some Pantera pictures" large, high traffic viewers (6,000+ views), andmaybe, if it's necessary, limit the number of images one guy can post. I could make a joke about seeing one car all the time... but I won't. Memory costs money, we know that. But I hope the day doesn't come where the large Pantera picture files get deleted and red circles appear instead.

Guidance please.

Ron

I'm permanently logged on with my home computer, Jim. I was reading about the Shelby convention, and Dave posted a picture of himself, so people could find him at the event, only I read the topic a few days later, and all I got was red circles. Same thing, red circles, when i went back and looked for a picture in my topic about 'installing brake upgrade kit'. Red circles, where before there were pictures. I mean it's OK, but I'd hate to see the large Pantera picture files deleted or reduced to red circles. And the red circles show up even when I see pictures in other topics. Seems like there's 'temporary' pictures and I'd just like clarification. I was thinking about uploading a picture into the 'let's see some Pantera pictures' file one day soon. Hate to see a red circle in a month, and actually, I'd like to encourage the making of a 'permanent' file status for that file, it's inspiring. I can tell how much a guy's lowered his car, if I'm adjusting my springs, I can see whether I like exhaust tips pointed up or out (pre-L or L) better, I sometimes refer back for when I'm going to make an adjustment or do some tinkering on my beast. I think it's an important file or set of files, while it's OK to have a 'defined shelf life' for some other pictures. It does indeed cost money to have massive picture files, and so, I think it's just good policy to just let everybody know.

There's a remote chance it's my computer, since I use my office computer, and it isn't always logged on to the eve system. It automaticallylogs onto eve when I post a message though.

Coz, can you get Dave's picture or do you get a red circle, can you get the photos in 'installing brake upgrade kit'? It's not a big deal if they got the red circle since if anybody is doing the same project and wants the picures, I can send them to them. I know I have to be careful with my home computer, a 1995 laptop, and I regularly delete photos, or it starts running really slowly. Very slowly.

I take out the trash under the sink, and when I moved offices after nine years, I threw out lots of stuff. It's a regular part of life to stay lean and clean, dude.
Ron,
Yes, I see Dave's picture. Try logging off the board and then try logging back on. On the first opening page, click on the log off, upper right corner. Then log back on with your e-mail address and password. You can also check the box "Remember me"

Just keep these basic rules in mine for the future and please respect the one who started the Topic and stay on Topic

Coz, Mark and Shotgungrooms,
It is my mistake, my office computer wasn't allowing me to see pictures. But I can't log on permanently either with that computer since this, my home computer, has been identified as the computer to be permanently identified as veryfast italain. In any even, I am able to over ride the problem, and so it's not a problem.

Mark,
With regard to this quote, in response to my question about pictures, I must inquire whether you are accusing me of something. Are you? Please specify the exact misdeeds, which I have allegedly done. In this orderly way, I shall be allowed the reasonable opportunity to answer such allegations. Or were you getting off topic, on my Topic? What's eating you? I suggest getting your Pantera back together ASAP. It seems to me that less and less people are actually posting on this Bulletin Board, and the folks who do post are posting messages with less frequency. It seems like a control issue to be so strict with your "Basic Rules" and I, for one, am unsure who you are level the accusations at. It seems that things have gotten much better, vis-a-via vendor bashing, in the recent past, after MY postivie suggestion to everybody: "ON A POSITIVE NOTE HERE" within the last several months. I left this BB before, due to hostility, and where were you and the Basic Rules then? I have also noted that other leadership has abandon any posting on this BB at all.

Why the strict controls? It certainly discourages many from posting at all.

Why aim your comments at me, on the topic of pictures, which I introduced the question about pictures, then Coz answered. To me, I was enlightened to read your response about picture policy. Then I get your message duplicated, again, in my topic, at me. If we are being so tight about regulations, then it seems like it's not OK anymore. I've seen some problems go uncorrected in the past, and I've also seen so many new Forums introduced, which seem to indicate a welcome sign to use this BB. Now these Basic Rules, when I didn't see any blatant abuses going on at all. What is happening dude? Please explain.

I don't have to hang around here and "contribute" and I note several others have not so much as given you any opportunity to explain,bt rather they simply vanished quietly.

I have other places to hang out and chat, and so do the others. I have other networks of Pantera buddies who happily help and who I happily help, so maybe we deserve an explanation here, and not just me. It's just a car and that's all. Now it seems more about your controlling matters, and just when the "censorship" issue was fading into memory. You may recall a few short months ago when all of us had difficulty posting on this PIBB, yet we hung in here, didn't we. I agree no bad words, no bad mouthing, and I don't see any of that anymore. But this seems like it's aimed at me on my topic. Getting closer to censorship, are we?

Loosen up the reins, pard'ner, yer chokin' the horse!

Mark,

Anyone who has held a position managing the activities of other human beings, knows it is sometimes a tough call deciding "do I say something, or do I bite my lip?" And when you decide to say something, finding the words that allow us to express ourselves in a way that is "easy for others to swallow" every time can be a challenge.

I for one APPRECIATE very much that you have taken the thankless job of moderating this BB for all of us to benefit by.

All my life I've been told I'm a social philosopher. There are many feelings & ideas I would like to express about this BB, but I've had a long day, maybe another time. I felt you could use a kind word though.

Oh, and by the way, WHERE DID YOU BUY THOSE WHEELS? Wink

George
Your doing a great job Mark. All is well brother !

Like you said this Topic is off subject and I have broken my own rule trying to keep the peace. I can’t win for trying. I get e-mail about people posting going off topic. I thought some Basic Rules would help the problem they did not. I will remove the Basic Rules and just put up with the e-mail.
Dear Mark,

Thank you for your Diplomatic response. Perhaps someday we can meet and shake hands, and eliminate the impersonal effect of the internet. We all have a common bond and share a common interest, despite unique differences we all have. I chose to tackle this issue with you in a direct way, and your response is a fine example of integrity and influential display of character. Leadership by example, is your chosen way of handling the issue. Remarkable, Mark. Impressed to see you took the high road. Please see it as an opportunity to clear the air, and make things better, which you have done.

I too get “complaints” from people directly, who tell me, for example, it’s ‘highly illegal’ to have custom seatbelts made, in their hush-hush way, directly to my e-mail. So, in response, I tell them it’s not illegal, and show them an ‘internet store’ which will sell them any combination of seat belt webbing, seat belt buckles and seat belt attaching devices. I ask them, now it’s your turn, prove to me these vendors are committing illegal acts. Call the FBI or Attorney General if you want. I never hear back from them. I got scoldings in the past and it didn’t let up, from one unnamed PIBB contributor, and it got to the point where I flat out told him if he tries to control me any more, then I’ll get the District Attorney in his City, County and State involved in the matter. He got my message, and decided not to test me any more. I met him at the Vegas Track Event and we both laughed about it. It would not be a laughing matter if somebody decided to try and control me. I am not alone in my resolve to never be “dominated and controlled” by some one who may have succeeded in doing that in the past to some one else. So, I have a fairly good idea who is, or at least the type of people, who are sending the e-mails, trying to exercise their control, in a sneaky way. Feel free to publish these e-mails right here on this public forum, and let’s put their character to the test, in the light of day, for all to see. Control Freaks, beware!

With ego cars go ego personalities. With incomes providing the ability to pay for ego cars, come techniques people employ to boost their own egos. Such ego ‘self massaging’ is devoid of the best human traits of empathy, cooperation, volunteering, and assisting. And we all get tired of it, for it is readily transparent. But it is self destructive behavior, this serious quest to massage one’s own ego, even at other’s expense.

I have received e-mails from many other people who say they deplore some of the folks who engage in the juvenile behavior of ridicule, which sometimes occurs on the PIBB. Dave Adler, a couple of years ago, sent me an e-mail saying to ignore them, there will always be a few undesirable people like that on this and other bulletin boards, and please continue contributing. I choose to heed his advice and attempt to assist when I can, or sometimes, just tell a story of human interest or discuss a project. I think it’s fun and worthwhile, despite the e-hate-mail.

This much I know for sure. It’s hard enough to control one’s own destiny in life, and it is equally impossible to control others.

On a positive note here....

May I make a request? Will you become more of an active participant in this BB? Maybe wear two hats at the same time? Like, can you be the Moderator, and just one of the guys, who once in a while offers tips to those of us seeking help.

May I make another observation, and request, please?

It’s my observation that there are multitudes of personalities in this world, and a few of us are actually quiet, studious folks, who may have quite extensive knowledge, yet have the attribute of ‘being shy’. With this observation, the request is to encourage the participation of these ‘quiet folks’. It may require defending them from the bullies who sometimes lurk out (t)here on the internet. But it’s my theory that we may be missing some valuable learning opportunities. And entertaining stories.

One last request....

Can you attempt to persuade Jerry at PI Motorsports to jump right in here and maybe talk about a few of his Pantera restoration projects, or offer a few replies to the more difficult questions on the Technical Advice Forum? I think it would be an extremely valuable marketing tool, and generate tremendous good will, and I believe he has some truly remarkable and interesting things to say, which will be of keen interest to all of us, if we can get him to set aside a few minutes once in a while. There will be a nice return on investment, for any efforts made, I’ll bet.

Let’s encourage other continue to inspire us, eh? OK, let’s get some honest, I want to hear Jerry and Dave BRAG about themselves, as I perceive untapped inspiration and resources are just within inches of their keyboards, almost ready to jump right in here and do a little talking about some subjects we have curiosity about. There are some folks who are completely uninhibited about doing that. Good ‘talking’ to you.

Best regards Mark
