I did a search, but didn't quite get my questions answered. I need seatbelts for the '72L that I am working on. It came with a mishmash of retractors and buckles. I installed the driver's side retractor and female part. I then wrestle for an hour getting my newly covered seat in place only to discover that I couldn't get it buckled w/my 6 year old in the driver's seat with the seat all the way back (too short). I saw some discussion on the Ebay seatbelts that are offered pretty much all the time.

Will they or won't they work on a '72L and how much modification is going to be required? Does anyone have any pics of them installed? I am open to any suggestions. Thanks for the help.

When I purchased my car in 1990, my seat belt webbing was shot - but, all the retraction mechanisms and buckles were OK.

I replaced the webbing and I continue to use the orginal seat belts. You could do something similar and install longer webbing if that is what is required.

You have to be careful about changing the webbing - replacing the old webbing with the new webbing has to be done in one step - otherwise, the spring mechanism in the retractor(s) will be broken.

I fully extended the retractor by fully pulling out the seat belt; I wired (as a temporary measure) the retractor in the fully extended position to hold it in place; I tack sewed (as a temporary measure)the new webbing to the end of the old webbing; pulled the old webbing out of the retractor as it "pulled in" the new webbing; machine "sewed-up" the webbing ends; undid the old webbing; and finally, removed the temporary wire that held the retractor fully extended so that the new webbing retracted in place. (There is more detail to be said - but I hope you get the idea)

Still works "like new" to this day.

Otherwise, you may need to get seat-belt extenders.

The problem is that what came with the car isn't correct. I have two passenger side retractors. One of which is apparently too short as someone has already replaced/repaired the webbing. I also have two completely different female ends. The shoulder belts have been cut for some reason. I went ahead and ordered the belts off of Ebay for $88 including shipping. I figured I'd waste more time than that fooling with this stuff. Hopefully, they will work.
