Developed another problem while driving around today.

Seems when in second gear and just crusing, the ZF is working it's way out of second gear and then slips into netural.

I'm thinking it's probably a linkage adjustment. As in loosen and move the shifter rod back just a little allowing more forward engagement into second and forth gears.

Anybody else experience this ? What was your fix to this problem ?

Thanks.
Coz

As you said, if you readjust the shift linkage, exactly following the procedure in your red Owners Manual, this effect should go away. ZF synchros are not like those in US transmissions so the guts of the tranny doesn't cause this, unless the setscrew in the ZF shifter box has come loose. Lock-Tite it after tightening VERY tight if so. In any case, I'd fix it pretty soon, or not drive in that gear very much... engine and/or tranny damage can occur
What owners manual ? Never seen one.
I am playing with the adjustment. Touchie isn't it.
It's getting better. I will also check set screw.
Thanks jack.
Appreciate the help and advice.

The advice given so far looks good. However, if adjustments don't yield any improvement, you might want to verify if that is a real ZF second gear. There are some "after-market" gears floating around that cause the condition you speak of. There are only a handful of gear builders that can make a perfect gear for the ZF. If the gear is substandard and below ZF specs, you can get the jumping out of gear condition you describe. We have heard reports of it before and the root cause was the non-ZF sourced gear. Good luck!
Coz said it was the linkage adjustment, talked to him today. Just so everybody knows what to try before taking the ZF apart....

Coz was clanking wrenches while we spoke, so he's probably still in the garage, deep into his Pantera with extreme concentration.

Makes me laugh when I run into people are even more fanatical about their Pantera than I am, go dude! Ha, ha, ha, I can't EVEN keep up! But I'm right behind ya.
It was the adjustment. Very little room for error. But the problem is no longer a problem.

Thanks EVERYONE ! for all the help, phone calls back and forth and patience. I very much appreciate it !
