I was just on ebay Austraila looking at 2V heads. One gentleman was kind enough to reply to my emails. He sent me the specifics on shipping from Aus and I plugged the info into UPS and FedEx's shipping calulators...MY GOD the cheapest was $1400 and the highest was over $2600 dollars...and that was AUS not US.

At this point in time, it may no longer make sense to build up, from scratch, a set of iron heads for a Cleveland. Probably not for any motor, in fact.

With so many flavors of aluminum heads available, and realizing they allow (all other factors remaining the same) use of a higher compression ratio (read that, more HP) and they are lighter (read that, more HP per #) it is hard to justify iron heads.

IF you have good heads and just need to freshen them and are on a budget, that may be a different story.

But if you are buying used iron heads that will require full machining, new valves, new seals, new rockers, etc....

For a small percentage more you can just go aluminum.

A lot of good aftermarket heads come out of Australia, e.g. CHI and AFD

The irony (no pun intended) is that a brand new set of bare aluminum CHI 2V's sell for US$1799 and that includes shipping to your US door!

As others have said there are plenty of 2V closed chamber heads available stateside.

There are guys who ship Australian parts to the US by the container full in order to make this cost effective, Aus Ford Parts is one such business. However, I'd like to point out another reason for not using the iron heads from Australia: combustion chamber volume.

The Australian 302C heads have nominal 58 cc combustion chambers, the right size for a 302 cubic inch motor, but a little small for a 351 cubic inch motor. Back in the 1980's Ford Motorsports sold a set of 2V heads with closed combustion chambers over the counter in the US, part number M-6049-C351. Those heads have nominal 62 cc combustion chambers. Those are the heads you want for a 351 if you're set on using iron 2V heads. Many people are not aware there are 2 variations of the closed chamber 2V head, and I've heard of guys winding up with one 62cc head and one 58cc head on the same motor. DOH! FYI, the various alloy 2V heads (AFD, CHI, Trick Flow, Edelbrock) all have nominal 62cc combustion chambers.

In this day and age the main reason for choosing the iron 2V heads would be to retain the oem look of the motor while improving the low rpm throttle response. If oem looks are not important, then I concur with Larry, a person will be better off purchasing a set of Trick Flow alloy 2V heads.

Jeff, I have a set of 2v heads on a motor I followed to the junk yard and bought for $250. Nokidding, I saw a rollback go by with an old LTD wagon on it. Sure enough it was a 2v motor and still had antifreeze in it. I was going to put it in, I even found 2v headers from D Jones. But the thought of the motor petering out at the higher rpm was too bad . I think I'm with Larry here.... cost equal with aftermarket AL. You need to change out the 2 piece valves anyway. If you wanted them... It would give me a reason to start stripping the block for the stroker parts. My ol' lady's gonna kill me. Bill
