Many owners with a ZF dash-1 contact-cement the spacers in place and use either aluminum bolts or steel bolts with cut-off shanks contact-cemented on the bell housing, all for show. This is instead of actually bolting those parts together. It doesn't take much engine movement and/or motor-mount wear to over-stress the assembly and break the extended ears off the cast iron side-plates.

They are definite weak spots. They really don't contribute much to ZF bracing and drivers have been known to lose most of their ZF lube before they notice a broken bearing side plate.  Back in the day, Pantera specialty shops used to actually hacksaw the ears off for safety. With the ZF- dash 2, the factory added two more bolts inside the later bell housings for a much more robust assembly than those cantilevered cast ears.

If you insist on actually using them, keep a very close eye on the condition of the bolt tightness and rubber spacers in your motor mounts, especially combined with the dash-1's single point rear mount. Good luck.
