This has come up before a number of times, but you mention 'stock' u-joint and 'spicer' in the same sentence so it is worth a note on the subject.

Stock U-joints are not spicers. Spicer half shafts were an aftermarket alternative and back when the Pantera OEM metric (32mm dia. bearing cap) UJ's were astronomical prices it was almost as cheap to replace the half shafts with spicer shafts (that use Ford F150 UJ's). That is simple enough, but to confound matters, Hall went and 'sleeved' spicer (or Ford F150) UJ's to meet the OEM diameter of the stock half shafts. The sleeves are very thin and after time the spicer caps or sleeves can turn in the half shafts, basically reaming out or ovaling the half shafts to the point they are useless....speaking from experience here.

I also know someone who had a half shaft let go at 30 mph leading to $7K worth of inner fender and ZF rebuild work, so getting the shafts rebuilt and right is well worth the effort.

Larry Stock has a bucket of half shafts he's supposed to be sending out to get built up with weld and then remachined for the very same aforementioned 'sleeving' reasons.

OEM spec 32mm UJ's are available from the vendors for around ~$40, so if you have stock half shafts (which it sounds like you do as 1 1/4" = ~32mm) those are what you will need. Check to see if you have the infamous Hall sleeves. If you truly have Spicer half shafts then the quoted Spicer UJ part # is 5-160X I beleive.

I have examined the U-joints carefully, short of removing them, and i see no evidence of any sleeve/shim And there is no evidence of any rotation or movement of the caps.
Are you saying that I could have stock shafts with spicer joints installed in them or that if I have spicer joints and no Hall sleeve/shim set-up I've most likely got true spicer half shafts?
