did you break it yet?

I am curious as mine looks pretty dirty and needs a good internal cleaning

I restored mine used navel gel to remove the rust then repainted and polished the chrome

I'm sure navel gel will prompt a lot of interesting comments .. :-))

It appears there are a couple of tiny spot welds that hold the guts inside. I used some stripper to remove the paint but will have to thoroughly clean it prior to painting. Painting the inside will be a pain.

Bringing this back up because I have mine out and I’d really like to take it apart.

The ashtray appears to be held together with two tiny rivets on either side. I don’t have a tiny riveter or tiny rivets.

Has anyone successfully taken this apart and gotten it back together?

I know Johnny woods did one but I can’t remember what or how, I will ask him and get you the method he used.

Ok I asked and he drilled them out and the replaced with tiny nuts and bolts so it could be easily broke down again, also the hanble was drilled or to get re-chromed two small holes drilled into the back of the handle and fixed back into place with tiny screws.

I did mine, stripped it down to have it crackle blacked, which took a long time, should have taken pics getting it back together was a trial but I had to take it to really good engineer to connect the handle.

Its one of those jobs you wish you had never started.
