Supercars Exposed - Pantera vs. Viper

I saw it last night too and was disappointed. I realize that both cars were modified but this isn't really fair. Some of the other cars were outright sleepers. That show has a long way to go IMO. What I did find most impressive was that the Pantera was neck and neck on the initial straight.
Great job by the Pantera owner, nice car and a great effort.

Tough luck really. Against many other cars he could of won. But he had to draw a 1000 hp car. Perhaps they just need a twin turbo pantera to compete to level the playing field. Wonder where they can get one, HMMM

Very tough luck, the HP to weight ratio was a bit off in favor of the viper as i am sure was the braking ability. A four second loss is quite a bit. I am not sure what he has for braking power, but if maddog could be trained to turn left and right then maybe?

the lower power to weight ratio didnt seam to hurt the porsche 911 techart with 620 HP

Definitely had the deck stacked against him, but KUDOS to Kevin for getting out there and flogging his 34 year old Pantera in a race against a state of the art 1000 hp Viper! You're my hero Kevin!

Interesting to note that that Corvette finished fully 5 seconds behind the Lambo, but they didn't make any issue of it. I suspect it was no accident that the Pantera was matched against a ringer. After all, it wouldn't be good for business if a 34 year old car from a bankrupt little company spanked the products that the network's advertisers build and support.

Regardless, the Pantera stuck to the Hennessy Viper all the way down the first straight. Go Pantera!

Looks like the Pantera driver slowed to about nothing when he went through the cones.

Owner-drivers, night time, poor visibility and bad traction from dust...it looks like they had fun, but we certainly didn't learn much about the cars.

Both the Pantera and the Corvette were on the outside lane, which is the longer one. They both also had trouble. The Pantera slowed down and went through the cones, and the Corvette spun around a turn.

Had they been on the inside lane and had a clean run, it could've been close for both!

At night and the dust was so bad the headlights looked to make it worse.

Aside from the absurd power to weight matchup and a 30 year differential, the show is just flat-out awful. There's nothing learned, no intelligent humor, lots of "near misses" for the camera, and a too much "gee whiz isn't that an expensive car" ca-ca going on. Words can't describe how much I dislike that show, first sentence notwithstanding.

I've got an idea: How about do a car show in America hosted by, written by, and produced by car people with actual brains?

You know Adams I cant agree more. I have heard that Jay leno was offered the job to host the U.S. version of Top gear. Now that would be a hot show.

That WOULD be a great show! I read somewhere that Conan O'Brien is getting Leno's time slot in - I think - 2 years or so. Less? Maybe our friend Jay will accept then!

When you watch Top Gear, and then go to this Speed Channel crap that COULD'VE been so much better, it makes you slightly nauseous.

I can't agree more. The speed channel really seems to go out of their way to dumb things up. Don't even get me started with PINKS!
