Tach drive signal

Hello to all,
I,m wondering if I can drive the tach in 4044 directly from the negative terminal of the coil. My original setup is coil hot + lead to a large terminal block,out of block to coil+. What I'm assuming is the tach lead to the other side of the block then out bottom of block to coil - terminal. BTW I want to thank Jack for the advice on the screen inside the A/C line under the dash it was 70% blocked. No more A/C moan and LOTS of cold air
