Anyone out there running a GT5 without a wing?

I have seen a few posts saying the GT5 needs the wing because it was original equipment, but I am starting to think the car would look less cluttered with the wing off.

As a bonus, I might have fewer people ask "is that a Lamborghini?" Of course, they would just ask "is that a Lotus" instead. Heh.

Here are a few flared Panteras without wings. It's a bitchen look! My favorites are Laslo's Pantera, Does200's Pantera, the orange Euro Pantera with the great styling, and the winged silver Pantera (yes, it's got a wing, but it's understated (no wanna-be Countach wing).

Anyway, I know that most of these are not GT5 Panteras, but they were too nice not to post!

Well, not exactly custom. They are little black plastic plugs from NAPA that I paid maybe a couple of bucks for. They just pop into the holes so as to cover them when the wing is off. The key thing is to pad the underside of the wing struts so they do not scratch the paint underneath when you put the wing on. I just used felt for that.

I had some guy take a photo of my car in Calgary a while back, and post it on Flickr. Someone then posted the comment that, without the wing, it looked like a Jalpa. That really hurt my feelings. Frowner

But the wing is functional. It helps hold the deck lid down if your latch breaks cause it is heavy. It gives your wife a place to wrap Christmas Presnts on. It can hold a whole picnic worth of food and beverage. It gives hot chicks a place to safely sit when you take pictures of them in their bathing suits. I mean a wing is just plain practical.

No way! There are similarities, but the Jalpa couldn't hold a candle to the sleek sexy lines of the Pantera. The Jalpa looks like a pimped-up Lotus Esprit or a poor kit car.

I ended up taking the wing off for three days to see how I liked it.

I loved the way it looked for the first hour. It seemed to simplify and clean up the car. And I was able to see out the rear view mirror!

But, alas, as I looked at it over the next few days the car started looking bottom heavy from the back...with the 365s on 14" wide wheels it just looked like a steam roller.

So, the experiment is over and the wing is back on.

Also, thanks for posting the Jalpa picture. I was watching the second season of Miami Vice last night and when my wife commented "that car looks like a junky Pantera" I was able to tell her what kind of car it was in an offhand manner that suggested that I have know that forever.

The next time you're watching Miami Vice with your wife and they use the white Testarossa, let her know that it's really a Pantera in all the "real" driving scenes because the delicate Testarossa couldn't take the punishment.

She'll surely be impressed! Cool

"Is that true, 'cause if it is....... I don't know how to react!?"

Mark, I have a piece of shiny glass that hangs down from the room of my car, but I think the glass is bad...everything in it is fuzzy, almost like there is an earthquake. Must be the sound of my exhaust shaking the road behind me.

Garth, we are having fun watching Miami Vice from the beginning. If we don't lose interest, we should be hitting the Testerossa in season three (I think). Then I will tell her all about it.
