A young lady received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. The bird would snap at its owner, flap its wings violently, and every word out of the bird's mouth was rude and laced with profanity. The young lady tried patiently to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music, showering the bird with kindness and anything else she could think of. All of the young lady's attempts were of no avail, the bird's nasty attitude and profane language seemed to worsen the harder its owner attempted to improve it.
One November afternoon the young lady and her parrot were in the kitchen, the bird watched from its perch as the young lady made preparations for her Thanksgiving Day meal. The bird must have decided the kitchen was too calm, as it suddenly began flapping its wings violently and uttering one profanity after another, as loudly as it ever had.
In desperation the young lady carefully picked up her parrot, making sure to be cautious and avoid being bitten. She opened the freezer door and carefully placed the parrot in the freezer, closing the door behind. She only wanted a moment’s peace and hoped the freezer would muffle the parrot's voice. For a few seconds the parrot continued to squawk profanity at full volume, she could hear it flapping its wings violently from inside. Then the flapping stopped, the profanity slowed, the loudness of the bird's squawking diminished, until suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for what seemed like an eternity, although only seconds had passed. Fearing that she had hurt the parrot, the young lady quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out of the freezer and into her outstretched arms and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude attitude and profanity. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate behavior and I fully intend to cease being unpleasant from this time forward."
The young lady was stunned at the sudden change in the bird's attitude. She stood staring at the parrot wondering what had made such a dramatic change in its behavior.
After a moments silence, the parrot spoke up again and queried "May I ask what was the turkey's transgression?"
