That video has been going around a lot lately but there was another race which has always been considered the birth place of speed and racing as we know it. That video is favored by Ford because it leaves out the contribution of Oldsmobile.
This was a race on Ormond Beach in 1903. The race of notoriety was between a Winton and an Oldsmobile. The Race was actually a bracket race as the Winton was faster then the Olsmobile. It was set up as a very close finish at the end and that race was published in many papers leading to many more races.
These races were the birth of the beach racing which split into different types of racing but is best known for Nascar racing.
The Oldsmobile is a stripped down version of the Curved dash Olds for which my father has several.
Another perpetuated miss truth is that Ford invented the assembly line and mass production. This was actually invented by Oldsmobile even though it was taken to a much larger scale by Ford.
