Tax man finally figured it out. Last year my car was valued at $4500, this year instead of a "Property tax value" its an "Appraised Value" of $71,000! Went from a tax bill of $118 last year to .....$1035!

State tax I presume not Federal? Who's appraisal estimate?
I'm sure we'll see more of this. In WA state they are looking at eliminating the classic car plates at a one time life time charge to an annual charge just like normal license tabs. Big brother has a spending problem.
Yeah, the first time I heard about that WA classic plate I was blown away! With the popularity of classic cars you have to sort of understand, especially when everyone's daily driver becomes a classic...Lol
I still see so many out of state plates here in NV, especially OR where registration is dirt cheap in comparison. It's not all big brother, there's a lot of people who want the benefits of living in one state, but not willing to pay their share.
Joules, you are correct in the fact that we the SOME people want it all and not pay for it. Like every vinyl record there are 2 sides. Glad to get your perspective from another part of our great country. Hope to see you at the PNW fall cruise in September if it happens.
Joules,
State and County. We also pay registration fees at the same time. Don't know how they came up with the appraised value. Afraid if I start asking about it they will re-assess it and come up higher.
Not sure how the state arbitrarily appraises a vehicle? That sucks, fortunately we are still a no State tax State for now, but with all the Casinos shut down due to COVID-19 and not gambling or room taxes coming in, I'm wondering how long it will last.
NV recently started requiring mileage submission with registration renewals, obviously with the daily drivers that is taken automatically via the OBD II at smog, but I just throw in an arbitrary number for the classics, you just know eventually they will impose a pay per mile tax. Right now the Pantera is about $40/year without any vanity plates etc.
I would push it. Good luck selling any car at $71,000 right now. Tell them you will gladly sell it to them if they send you a buyer or a check. Its all bullshit.
