Maybe. The ZF 5-speed is not like a motorcycle tranny which uses dog-ring synchronizers, nor a Muncie 4-speed from the muscle-car era that uses toothed brass synchro rings inside a sliding coupling. Instead, the ZF has what is known as a 'balk-ring' synchronizer system very similar to a Porsche, and its rather easy to 'beat'n the synchros while shifting quickly. I suspect that any such add-on shifting unit would need considerable engineering to make it work right on our ZFs. Also keep in mind that the Pantera (and any other car with independent rear suspension) is a poor drag-racer, which is really what these power-shifters were designed for. With the cost of a ZF today, let's experiment with YOUR $6000 tranny.... Lloyd Butfoy, who runs the only authorized ZF overhaul facility, may be interested, possibly for the 6-speed ZFs in the road-racing Saleens that ran LeMans last week.
