I know that I could ask my local tire store, but I've found the information on this forum to be more reliable, so here goes: Is it safe to mount 295/50/15 tires on the stock 15 x 8 rims? I'd like to go with 285's, but they're no longer available. Eventually I know that I'll have to upgrade to the 16's & 17's, but for now I just want to replace the tires on my stock rims. Well, what do you think?

I mounted P-295 goodyear eagle GT II's on 12" wide rims 15" diameter they look great because the tread width is 11 1/2 inches wide. If you put them on an 8" wide rim on the rear, they will really be "Hanging over". Don't think of putting them on the front, there is no room!! Marlin.
I was planning on running 225/50/15's on the front (15 x 7) & the 295's on the back. I can still get "T" rated tires from Dunlop or Cooper that would work. The overall diameter of the 295's is pretty close to stock, I was just worried on clearance & handling problems. Any thoughts?
11 inch tread on 8 inch rim is no good. The tread should be the same or less than the wheel. For stability reasons.
Also, a bigger diameter than 23,5" front tire on a standard Pantera is to large, if a proper ride height is to be used.

Upgrade to bigger wheels makes it easy to find rubber, but the penality will be an even larger dia. A Pantera with more than 4,5" ground setting, measured at the front crossmamber under the radiator, ends up with bad stability. But many of those wheels look nice. And if not the ultimate driveability is your concern, it will be OK to use tehm.
