My 1972 Pantera has about 40,000 miles and of course the dash-2 ZF. I know that the bottom case has been off, because the previous owner safety wired the ring gear bolts utilizing the original fastners. Other than that, I do not believe the transaxle has been apart. The tranaxle has a pronounced whine in the higher gears on decelleration and recently has begun to whine at steady speeds as well. In a common rear end, I would assume this we be a problem with the lash between the ring and pinion. Is the same true for the ZF. Other than that, the ZF shifts smoothly and seems to work well. I'm thinking the transaxle needs a check up and tune up and replacement of the original ring gear bolts. However, my primary issue is to get rid of the whine. What do you think? What is the normal turn around time getting a ZF serviced?

Thanks
