* * EVENT IS ON SUNDAY * *

Mark your calendars now. The Southern AZ Panteras plan a trip through the hills to Arivaca, AZ. All Phoenix cats are welcome too.

The plan is to meet at Duval Body and Paint on Sunday at 1000 AM. Directions are listed below. Then we will drive out to Arivaca and eat lunch at the “Sweet Pea” Café.

From there we head into the town of Arivaca for libations at the La Gitana Cantina (one of Esquire Magazine’s “Best Bars in the United States”).

We will then return the long way via Highway 286 up to Three Points. We can decide to cut up Sandario Rd and hit I-10 in Marana, or just stay south. Either way is fine.

Then “home again, home again, jiggety jig”.

This might be my last run for a while, as my car is going down soon for an engine swap.

Anyway – there should be some extra seats, if people just want to ride, and not only Panteras need apply.

Unfortunately, my planned detour to T2V Restoration (Home of the Townsend Typhoon MkII and Mk IV) did not pan out.

We'll hit it some other time.

We have a new "Cat" coming out of hibernation. We are all looking forward to seeing it.

Here's another picture of Frank Townsend's (RIP) cars... Frank was an automotive legend, and Tucson engine builder extrordinaire...

Panteras Attack Arivaca - Awesome Run!

On Sunday, the Southern Arizona Panteras blasted into Arivaca. It was a great run, with just a twinge of sadness (as one of our key members wrenched his back, and another had an unexpected conflict). Nevertheless, we made the best of it.

We had 4 cars (3 Panteras, and a '33 Vicky). Andy and TJ turned out with another AWESOME yellow Pantera - everyone thought they were seeing double as we ran past 'em.

Our cars were the "toast of the town" as we blasted across the Arizona desert. Everyone wanted pictures. I must say, the locals are very accommodating - there were at least 5 cars that pulled over to the shoulder to let us pass. That never happens on Mt. Lemmon!

We started at Rick's shop (Duval Body and Paint), and got a tour of the facilities, then down south to a nice restaurant for lunch. The atmosphere and the libations at the Gitana Cantina were a real treat. Then it was a high-speed blast back up to Picture Rocks on the winding, and then fast-and-straight back roads.

Never saw any cops on the main part of the run, but must have seen about 100 Border Patrol agents.

It was an awesome trip - everyone pulled into their final destination with a huge grins on their faces.

We WILL do this one again, especially when we can get to T2V Racing.

Slideshow of Arivaca Adventure...

The pictures don't do the "driving" part justice, but it didn't seem wise to be trying to juggle a camera and drive at the same time....
