Type 1 ZF

Thats hard to say with out looking at it,but I bet you could save a few parts out of it like the case. Good Luck.

Appreciate it. The transaxle was looking good asides from oxidation and the vent hose was still in place giving me the impression that at least water hadn't seeped down into it.

Where is the car located?

Down here in Florida. Was sitting for close to 15 years and then the shop that had it made a deal with the person who has it now. Just sitting in the woods with the rest of the other junkers he has. The car itself has rusted to oblivion but the rims (with clean up), all glass, engine (given an obvious rebuild, and transaxle are still good not to forget the guages and seats inside if they are ok. This is a 71 and the heads were the closed chamber 4V if I was not mistaken. Right now seeing if it is worth my time to tear apart the car in order to sell of the peices mentioned.

I believe the mount in the back does not for sure make it a type 1 transaxle. Am I correct? My early 72 has the mount in the back, is a type 2. CB

I would go by the ID tag on the shift housing,
the lower left corner on the tag will say
ZF 5DS25-1 or -2

Be aware tha the internal components of this trans will be severely rusted anywhwer aboe the oil level( if there is ANY oil in it at all). Llyod is correct in stating that the caes will be salvagable, but probably not too much else.
