The previous owner of my car painted all the trim (windshield, door window frames, etc.) flat black.
Is there a standard procedure for removing the paint? Does the trim have to be removed from the car?

I just got my car painted and we did all the trim in black. The standard procedure is to sand the stainless with 180 grit, spray on some metal etching primer, and then finish with the black.
If yours wasn't sanded, then you've got a chance. If yours was sanded, then you're going to have to try and rebuff all that trim after it is cleaned up. I don't know how successful that is going to be. I've been told it is possible with stainless, but that anything that was chromed is probably not going to turn out well.

The answer is yes. Mine is stainless, but a friend's early '71 is chromed. So the correct answer is one or the other

By early Pantera, Steve is referring to a pushbutton Pantera. The pushbutton Panteras have chromed window trim, one piece (brazed) construction. Very beautiful.
The remaining Panteras have stainless trim of cheaper construction.

Actually, George, that Pantera is not a pushbutton. In typical fashion, then, I assume DeTomaso went to stainless when they ran out of the chrome ones.
