After disassembly of the universals I found cork seals on the "spider" shafts. I ripped one removing it from the shield that is pressed in the spider. I thought an O-ring would be a better seal and found a 212 O-ring fits perfectly in the shield and on the spider shaft. Viton is compatible with engine oil, grease, most petroleum products, although not brake fluid.
Is there any reason that a Viton O-ring is not an acceptable replacement for the cork seals?
