Damn, what the heck, even after completing the written survey for the good of what it does, there seems to be census people harassing us at the door for more info. In the info they say it will only take 90 minutes and they want all receipts for everything you ever paid for, credit card statements, medical bills, pay stubs, bank statements, appliance purchases, home improvement receipts, insurance premiums, service contracts such as for pest control, on and on, etc, a list of over 25 categories. Then I went to YouTube and couldn't believe what I saw, check it out. I don't even spend 90 minutes with something I love, such as a car show. Beware, they don't give up or take no for an answer, even though the info says it is voluntary. Police will not intervene either for harassment, I already tried that.

You made the fist mistake in answering the letter. Just like jury duty. Shred the first notice.

I had a census taker show up at the door in the summer when I had the front door open and the dog gate closed. He said "This is a federal requirement". I told him to talk to the dog, (who was going bonkers barking). He went away.

Enough of your financial life is in the system. If the government wants it, they can get it. Tell the census takers to take a long walk on a short pier.
The census people sent my form back! AGAIN!!!

I guess it was because of my response to the question : "List all occupants/dependents?"
I replied -
"12 million illegal immigrants;
"3 million crack heads;
"42 million unemployable people on food stamps,
"2 million people in over 243 prisons;
"Half of Mexico ; and
"535 fools in the U.S. House and Senate.”

Apparently, this was NOT an acceptable answer.

That's a good one. Looking at all the Youtube clips and other sources, it seems the only answer required to the census is "# living in the house", and that's it. Otherwise there could be a fine issued if that info isn't provided. Any attorneys or police out there with an opinion? I did google, but didn't find anyone arrested for harrassment or sued.

Not sure about that, but I do walk around in my home with 9mm down the front of my pants with safety on (for my own protection, ha ha) and gun butt sticking out and I answer the door that way as well when I forget. Purely unintentional, I just forget I have it there sometimes. I suppose that is legal, not sure. Anyway, you all may be next....see the Youtube below to get a flavor of what it is all about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfIN-A384Ko

What I find kind of ridiculous is the home owner took 14 minutes to get rid of the guy with pointless argument. Just tell him to get off your property and close and lock the door.

Yeah, but then they stay at your door for half an hour, and still come back later too (believe me, been there with that, and the police will not do anything since they say census folks are a governmental agencey doing what they need to do).
Even with the 'no Tresspassing' and 'BAD DOG' signs up, one STUPID fool came up to the door for his 'interview'. I can't help it if the dog thought of him as a chew toy. Pits are funny that way sometimes. Big Grin

Now the poor puppy is registered as 'aggressive', needs to be leashed with a muzzle when outside or penned....he only wanted a snack. Razzer

snicker
