Mad

I will not name the vendor that I have a gripe with. But, maybe by the processes of elimination you can determine who this California non forum sponsor is.

I wanted to replace the radiator bushings before re installing my recently repaired radiator. I asked this vendor if he carried the poly bushings. He replied "Only Hall carries that kind of crap ". So, I ordered the rubber type. After 7 days the bushings arrived by DSL. I was charged $10.00 shipping for parts that cost $25.00.

The vender shipped the bushings in a 6x6x6 cube. They could have easily been shipped in a standard padded mailer for maybe a few bucks.

Maybe it is just me but a 40% shipping /handling charge is excessive.

I already know from the description who it is.

I'd have to ask Justin if $10 is out of line, he does all of our shipping. I can tell you, that to mail a magazine first class using a flat mailing envelope costs $4.

Was it US Postal, Fed Ex, UPS? Was there any time constaint, next day shipping, that sort of thing?
This has come up before at different times with various vendors, particularly on light low cost items.

The only time I really get galled is when a vendor charges me $10 for shipping and I find it cost $2 i.e. they are making money on the shipping. I do have a habit of asking how much shipping will be prior to placing the order, to avoid surprises.

If $10 was the true cost of shipping then the vendor is not making anything out of this. However, I do beleive that a vendor needs to undertake 'due diligence' to enusre he/she is using the most economical means of shipping.

I think a lot of the vendors would argue that they have an account with one courier and a bulk daily pick up and that to start using multiple services would be too much hassle. Having said that USPS does both buisness and home pickup at no charge and that is usually the most economical way of shipping if there is no absolute priority i.e. o/night.

Please do make the vendor aware of your frustration, if enough of us do then we can hopefully change their habits. It may even be down to a shipping clerk where the Vendor isn't truly aware of the shipping side of the business.

Sorry, but I'm a little confused by a lot of the whining I come across.

Nobody wants to get ripped off, but really... $10? You could have mailed it to save money, but it might get lost or damaged or take forever getting to you. And trust me, a 6 x 6 box will keep a part better protected than a little flat bubble wrap envelope. And how much can you save on $10? $3? $4?

At $35 that's got to be one of the least expensive fixes you will make in your life with your Pantera. Life is too short to get upset over this.

I have been buying stuff for 25 years from all the vendors out there and must say that there are lot more weird customers than vendors. As a whole I have found the "entire" Pantera vendor community more than helpful, fair and competitive (after all there are at least three guys at any time who offer very similar parts for the Pantera owners). It's more a matter of who has what in stock when you need it. Plus a little online shopping and phone calls never hurt. Ask the right questions. Identify your needs and priorities.

Yes, I have been ripped off plenty by shipping companies. (I once paid $75 for shipping, duty and taxes for a $20 part!). But all the stress can be avoided if it's too muich to bear - use regular mail, group your parts purchases, make regular visits to CA, OR, FL or find friendly Pcar owners who live where our vendors do, or just bite the bullet when you need that part to go in tomorrow.

Just be thankful that you don't have buy sheet metal - now THAT will give you grief!

And don't forget to enjoy your car. $35 is a cheap price to pay for a few minutes behind the wheel, heck, even staring at it in the garage is worth it!
OK, stressing out over 10 bucks is stupid and my fault for not asking first. I would have gladly accepted the shipping cost if I had received it in a few days. The fact that they used DSL and it took 7 days is ridiculous. But again my fault for not asking first.

Lastly ,I think it is a poor business practice to slam a competitor. I will not use this vendor in the future.
First of all, the vendors have shipping accounts that get discounted on the monthly bill. The minimum UPS shipping charge of $8 is discounted to the shipper if he does a certain volume.

So #1, the vendor makes money on the shipping.

Under 2 pounds, no one is cheaper then USPS Priority. No one makes money on that.

#3. These are Pantera specialty gizmos and you need them and "they" got 'em.
Be happy that you can get them at all.

I tried to save up a misc. odering list to save on shipping/handling. I don't think I even spent under $400 for anything in a Pantera shop.

After a while you become resigned to the fact that it's a Pantera, a genuine exotic. So exotic that in fact no one except a Canadian hockey fan and another Pantera owner know what they are.

So exotic that in fact naked women don't throw themselves at the car because they think it is a kit.

Get used to it. Be one with the Universe. Knowing that you are unique and special should be enough.

I gotta' go chant now...ahumm, ahumm, ahumm, chime, chime, chime.
My limited experiences with buying parts for my car leads me to believe that each vendor has their own "personality". That is there are certain items that each excels at, other items that they simply carry and other items that they can get. The problem arises when you try to buy a gromet from a vendor that excels at engines and exhaust... they really don't have the resources to ship the gromet cost effectively. One vendor had a part and the shipping was horrible and I ended up buying elsewhere. However the same vendor had a clutch I needed and the shipping was ok. The moral of my story ... shop shipping as well as the part price. - By the way the vendor that supplied my cluch called me two days later to make sure it fit ok becuase he had gotten in some that were made wrong. That guy earned alot of respect from me.
