Water Pump/Timing chain cover

I have just removed my std water pump to be replaced by a FlowKooler.

I notice the front face of the timing chain cover behind the water pump is corroded and badly pitted.
Would this have a significant detrimental impact on the operation of the impeller and water pump?

Reluctant to have to change it as it means dropping the oil pan, front balancer etc. Would it be OK to metal fill it then sand it smooth?

I replaced mine. Purchased from Summit. It was not too difficult to do. You do need to purchase a front seal and gasket kit. Maybe referenced as a timing cover kit. I found I was able to loosen the pan bolts and simply angle the front of the pan down to get the cover in place.
