Brad,

Webers are a mixed bag of tricks.

They "look" absolutely BITCHEN. They sound absolutely BITCHEN. Once tuned properly, the throttle response is absolutely BITCHEN.

But.......

They are fussy, always wanting to be adjusted. They get dismal fuel economy. Try finding an air filter assembly.

The fussy nature can be lessened if you build as beefy of a throttle linkage as possible. Keeping 4 carburetors synchronized is a major part of the fussy nature of these carbs. If you're going to run them, plan on paying someone who knows how to tune them to do that for you, do not plan on doing it yourself. There are far fewer mechanics who are knoweldgable about Webers than about Holleys. The Adlers do have a tuner in the Orange County area.

The 48IDA is a racing carb, with an idle circuit & a main circuit, but no intermediate circuit. You spend most of your time driving in the intermediate range. The 48 IDA is made streetable by carefully setting up the idle & main circuits to blend as best as possible in the intermediate range. Weber manufactures a street carb, the 48 IDF, it does have an intermediate circuit, but Cleveland manifolds for the 48 IDF carb are far & few between. I've been looking for one particular Australian 48 IDF manifold myself for 3 years with no luck.

If they weren't a headache to live with, more people would have Webers. The truth is, most people who install them, end up going back to a single four barrell carb. It is an expensive lesson.

Actually Mark, my car used to have Webers before I bought it. He kept the webbers but made an intake box with the Weber brackets on top:

The airbreathers should work.

George, it will be a fun experience. With help from a friend who I have seen do wonders with all types of carbs; I think we'll be able to get them tuned. It will be a while before I get to that point.

Brad, They asked Lindburg "Why are you crossing the ocean with only one engine?" His response was. "Less chance of engine trouble" With gas prices like they are. I would have to stick with a single 4 bbl myself. You can expect a decrease in mileage. But I don't have the cover car that is on permenant disply either! Big Grin
