I finally have some time to replace my stock sway bars. What is the best method for removing the old ones and installing the new ones. I have to install the heim joints too.
Johnny, I removed my rear and painted it. I also got a pair of the billet caps from PI. It was straight forward, and I did it with the car on the ground. NOW, I don't know about the heim joints, but i would figure to install without any preload.
I can tell you it was a bitch to replace mine off the ground and wheels off. Both front and rear required a crow bar to align the brackets to attach. I guess that's what you call preload.
Get ready for some fun. Like Pooky, mine were a real chore. Some line up real well, others needs some real work. You might have to raise and lower the wheels to align all of the mounting bolt holes. One goes up, and gets the mount started then trying the same on the othter side. There is no easy answer. Take your time and make sure each bolt is properly started, cross threading is easy while trying to strong arm the bars in place.
I haven't got to the front yet, but the replacing the rear bar was about the easiest thing that I've ever done to my car. Here's what I did:
1) jacked up car and removed both wheels 2) put car on jackstands and used jacks to raise both wheel assemblies 3) loosened all nuts 4) removed brackets attached to a-arms 5) removed center brackets
installation was the reverse
6) lign up all nuts\bolts (very easily done) 7) hand tighten everything 8) tighten center brackets 9) tighten end brackets 10) put wheels back on car 11) done....
The heim joints were a piece of cake.
I hope the front goes the same way. I also have to install a camber lock kit.
