What is the cylinderical silver sending unit mounted at the rear top of the engine in this photo. I'm assuming it's a temperature sender as the wire has broken off of mine and my temp guage stopped functioning at that time. Coincidence? Where can I find a new one?

This is a standard Ford part for the Cleveland engine. Any auto parts store can supply one for you, just ask for a 1972 mustang oil pressure sender with a gauge, not an idiot light.

It has nothing to do with your nonfunctional water temperature gauge
