whisker screws

Glenn,

my first source for fasteners and just about everything else is McMaster - Carr Supply Company. They have oval head metric machine screws as small as 2.5 mm, flat head metric machine screws as small as 2 mm and pan head metric machine screws as small as 1.6 mm. They are all zinc plated.

Do you have a measurement for the screws? I haven't had my doors apart, I don't know what the screws look like.

Go to Lowe's or Home Depot. Look at the very small hindges that they sell. The smallest ones are perfect! I can't remember which one but one store had the really small ones and the other didn't

"Outer whiskers" is a phrase I have never heard - (except maybe when I took my cat to the vet!) - what does it mean?

The two strips of fine hairs that are on the inner edges of the door where the glass is. Commonly called cat whiskers.

Be careful, it doesn't take much to damage the metal strip they screw into. I used screws that wer slightly longer than the originals and wound up with a hole in my trim piece that I had to get fixed.

I found the tight bsize at Home Depot. Here's a trick, they were slightly longer than the shortest screws so I got them started in the trim then used a dremel to cut the length and finished screwing in. works great.
