I went to get a safety inspection at a local tire/repair shop this morning. A female employee working the reception desk was charged to operate the turn signals, lights etc for the inspector. She starts the car to start the inspection and the car lurches forward. Ding dong has attempted to start it in gear. Luckily she has her foot on the brake and the car stalls about 8 inches from the front plate glass window of the shop. Needless to say she was sent back to the desk and the car passed without any further inspection.

Ha, maybe the inspection was to see how the woman performed, not the Pantera.

At least here in CA we don't have any of that crap to deal with. Pre 75 w/ superchargers, turbos, big hydrocarbon spitting CI engines, racing tires, whatever...just hop in and drive, no inspections, no annual smog tests, no problemo However, could be another matter when pulled over, especially if you have an open a 6 pack in the passenger seat.
A few years back when I had a Porsche 911C4, I had to take it into a smog station for testing.
The guy hooked everything up, started the car with the clutch in and then started the test and let the clutch out. Needless to say, the car lunged forward....all wheel drive...I came out of the booth unglued...The rest of the test was just in neutral as an idle test....
