Try Again LLoyd I'm questioning the zf having postraction. I thought a quick method of determining posi was to turn one wheel if the wheel turned in the same direction you have posi if not you have a one legger. I turn one of the output shaft and the other wheel turns the opposite direction what gives. I have a type 2 zf. the unit has been inverted to go into an ERA gt40

thanks
LLoyd
You have a ZF design limited slip diff,It is a two axle four spider gear setup with two pressure pieces, witch under load will lock up to drive both wheels. On both sides of the pressure pieces is a laminated clutch disc to allow one wheel to break loose when under a load in a corner to eliminate wheel spin of the tire on the inside of the corner, that way you get more power to the ground. So yes, you will get one wheel turning in the opposite direction when up in the air and you can have someone hold one wheel and you can turn the other.I have told
everyone that buys parts to service there ZF that they should replace the diff thrust washers and clutch disc because they are an important part of the ZF and have a wear life. They are cheap parts $30 for two thrust washers.
