I did want to point out that I was told to be very careful about requests for "less expensive" Pantera Zfs as the old saying "you get what you pay for" really applies. It is easy to get into more money repairing a not so nice but cheaper transmission than to just suck it up and spring for the one you know will be a good one. Although some of us may have some trouble with the necessary funds to do so. I am looking and saving as I go. Hopefully I will be able to purchase one of the RBT rebuilds someday soon.

Shawn;
There is a new in crate tranny advertised in the PI parts for sale at $5,000. Or, you could send yours to RBT and be sure it is done right, probably cost you $2,500 or so, call them. These cars do not fit into the category of "budget" transport.
Please beware of "new in crate" ZF offers. When Ford canned the Pantera, many dealers had a stock of crated ZF's that they sold very cheap - I've heard as low as $700. They were in great condition at the time, but if they have sat in a damp location for thirty years, you may find a nice looking case filled with useless rusted bearings and gears. While they can be beautiful cherry NOS units, any crated ZF should be opened and inspected prior to purchase.
