Where does POCA host the Fun Rally in 2012?

Jim Nowlin and the Reno Tahoe Chapter along with Circus Circus have done a terrific job as hosts and making us feel welcome in Reno. I am confident that they would welcome us back for another year. However, change has brought a vibrancy to the Event and it is healthy to continually explore our options.

Last year, the Fun Rally committee approached San Diego as potential facilitators of the Event in their corner of the Country for 2011. Alas, it was not to be; although, perhaps 2012 could be different?

The Fun Rally is staged by a handful of POCA folks and we need the Chapter in the host market to perform initial due diligence on hotel capabilities and track options. The POCA Fun Rally committee will perform the heavy lifting; yet, we still benefit from local cooperation. With that said, are there Chapters who feel they have an attractive location and the resources to help facilitate the transition?

Let us know, the earlier we start, the better.

Why not the Phoenix Arizona area ?

Could be outings to Flagstaff, Sedona, Tombstone....to name a few.

There is a track here, Firebird International Raceway where I have connections for track rentals, and there is a Hotel & Casino, one of the biggest here, right across the street from Firebird.
Plenty of parking, security and other amenities.

Just a thought !
Coz,

That could work, next door to Firebird is the Bondurant school too, for the racers there is the oportunity to hone track skills for a day or two or a group rental on their experience shifter Karts (which I highly recommend!)

June maybe getting too late, I know a couple guys that way that won't drive in summer, it's too hot! And you know that all Pantera's just need the A/C charging! Big Grin

Coz, Phoenix does have resonable weather that time of year and it is good that some people are thinking of an alternate location. At the risk of being called out on this, what is so wrong with Las Vegas? It seemed like the location and the late April date worked well for quite a few people for many years.
Working with Gil, who is our POCA Chapter President on this possibility, this is a starting list of the possibilities of entertainment and things we could do here.

Good Morning Jim,
I looked over the itinerary for Reno 2011. The events involving car participation revolve around Thursday and Friday.

It would not present a problem to mirror the events being offered in Reno to things we can do here.

Thursday: Shopping and Lunch in Old Town Scottsdale (40 different antique & Speciality Stores)
9-4 Drive to Prescott via Wickenburg and congress(lunch and shopping)
8-6 Drive to Clarsdale via Jerome( train ride and lunch)
8pm-whenever F4 racing(go karts)

Friday: 10-4 Drive to Tortilla Flats and Lunch, via Saghura Lake and Canyon Lake.
9-4 Drive to Globe(shopping and Lunch)
4-9pm Hay ride and dinner in South Moutain Park
4-9pm Dinner and sunset cruise on the steamboat Dolly(canyon Lake)

Plus we still have car Museums, horseback riding in Wickenburg, wine tasting at Kokopelli in chandler, car show at the Pavilions on Saturday, tours of historic homes in downtown Phx.

I am really starting to believe this could be a good change at least once anyway.

Just my opinion here . . . .

Scottsdale/Phx is great - have been doing the goodguys show in NOvember for years and love the long weekend.

Why not a late fall event IN ADDITION to the Fun Rally? (although I think someone tried that once and couldn't get the numbers?)

I vote yes! Good racing opportunities; the Pavillions on sat nite is great.

cheers,
