Hi all, I am new in the Forom and hope in the right section. I like to upgrade my 351c engine in the 1972 Pantera. official hp 271. I was told easy up to 350 hp which would be fine. Which combination and parts of alu heads, carb, intake manifold, camb shaft do I need ? which parts should be modified in addition, clutch for instance. thanks, Uli

Hi Rocky,
thanks for the info and the link. It will take some hours to read them, days and weeks to understand them all... The garage I intended to use is familiar with the engine in general, but less with DeTomaso. They did a quick suggestion of which components need to be used. Like the alu heads, cam shaft, intake manifold etc. I assume such upgrade was done already many times. I like to compare the suggested components by the garage with the suggestion and experiences of the comunity. (sorry for my english)who has done a similar upgrade ?
regards, Uli
Hi Uli -

Lots of us have done similar upgrades.

You can read about mine here.

BUT.......

The 351 Cleveland has a few differences from other V-8 engines, and it's helpful to have a feel for the engines in particular.

I would assume that parts COULD be limited over there, but maybe not.

I think if you google around you can generally find a list of parts to use.. Making sure they all work well together is the challenge.

Anyway - good luck with the build - keep us posted.

Pictures of your car and the last 4 digits of your VIN would be interesting to everyone... Maybe some history on your car...

Hi Garth, arriving Mo.October 9th noon in San Jose. I will check the timing.
Hi Chris, unfortunately I can't rebuilt the engine by myself. missing tools, space and experiences. I talked to an experienced garage yesterday. The cost can get up very high, so that it could become similar to a new engine. depending on the engine itself. keep you posted,
regards, Uli
Uli, 350 bhp is easy with a 351C, its reputation has always been that of a 440 bhp street engine. The 4V Cleveland cylinder head was a landmark development, its engineering continues to be the foundation of OHV racing cylinder heads to this day. A 351C street engine doesn't require the expense of aftermarket heads, especially for only 350 horsepower.
