Another Disaster

Looks like a big job to make this running again and in my opinion it looks like mission impossible. I think with a starting bid at $9,400 the cost at the end to fix this car will be more than buying a good running Pantera. Maybe the best thing to do is selling the good parts from it.

The underlying problem continues, the value of a completed car is much too low.

Boy...is this guy optomistic. I don't see much of value left. Rust everywhere on what I do see makes me think the whole chassis is a loss. You've got a well used ZF, a well used Cleveland, some interior parts and some suspension parts. Half the opening bid would be more like it.
If he gets a single bid, I'll be shocked.

on e-bay right now there is a super canidate shell two take parts from grey car and put on org/red car,1,000 reserve asking for the shell/actually more thenjust a shell,but 9500.for the grey on dosn't make it to fesible dose it,bot if some onr had the time and energy to put this deal together i'd think he come up with a low cost pantera,check it out see what you the pro's think?les.well there was one on there and i'm sure it had 5 days to go for auction,i wanted to get the item # for you,sorry,you'll have to do some searching.les

"Boss", don't be fooled. Internet pictures can look better than the reality sometimes. Take a close look at the upper left corner of the interior dash area. This much rust in such an unusual area indicates a total basket case. The fresh looking paint in the engine compartment looks like an attempt to freshen up some bad bondo work. Regardless of the sellers claim that he tried to show the areas of concern, I would bet that the lower front valance is swiss cheese, the rockers are full of bondo, the floorboards are rotten, the backs of the front wheel wells are air conditioned, and the suspension mounts are ready to crumble. The exterior panels look like they have been given a back yard special paint job to cover up extensive repairs. Those panels look pretty uneven to me.
I would say that someone wisely gave up on this thing and started parting it out.
This one looks like another bad bet to me.

here is my take. ZF=5000 engine 1500 suspension and brakes 3000 interior 1000 a few trim peices 500 Body is junk total 9500 I think I'm being pretty realistic.

As bad as the body looks the suspension might be bent and junk.

The parted out car is worth more than you think. I just parted out a wreck and just about every little part that you can remove is worth money, good money. People are paying more than you would think for Pantera parts on Ebay.

Dennis, I have a question for you. If a person had even an immaculate car, one that is updated and not spec one of rust. Would he make more money parting the car out, or would he make more money selling it whole??????

My guess is parting it out.

But the effort involved may not be cost effective. As you have to put a price on your time, storage, and effort to sale and ship individual pieces. Thats probably why wrecking yards often charge more for a used parts than you can buy a new part from the dealer.

True, but if we all bought up just one extra Pantera and sold parts to each other, we would drive up the value of the car, by decreasing the supply, be able to sell each other parts at reasonable costs, and ensure the cars survival well into the future. But we would all have to take an oath or something so no one cheats and sells out of the club.

It seems that the only Panteras that survive are the ones that never get driven at all.

So, let me get this straight...he had a couple of bidders that put it over $9600, but now is re-listing it at 9K. Humm... Does anybody smell a rat. Or maybe a jackass.
Since his reserve is not met, it makes me wonder just what he thinks this "jaws of life" refugee is worth.

I think he is just eliminating the low bidders. He would be better off posting it as a buy it now/best offer.

I don't think that the Pantera has reached the level where that parts are worth more than a good condition complete car. A majorly damaged wreck is definitely better off being parted out unless you are able to do the labor in its restoration yourself. I was surprised at how easy the car came apart and how little time it actually took. One good thing about this was the experience, I now know how just about everyting comes apart! Now I just have to find time to market the shell and my wife can have her garage back!
