Ball Joint Removal

I am needing to remove the ball joints (Upper Rear) from the a-arms in order to powder coat the a-arms and replace the ball joint boots. How can these be
removed without damaging the ball joints?

Any recommendations on modifying the upper front
a-arms to improve handling? Although the a-arms
will be used on a 1971 Pantera, I also have the suspension from a 1974. The a-arms on it (upper front) have spacers between the ball joint. Would it be better to use these instead of the original a-arms?
