That's a long time to wait for that "punch in the back in all 5 gears" feeling, Marcus, and I'm glad you're back in our "pride" of cats.
Our Lolas would provide quite a punch, too, especially on those standing starts...I did a few, but the SCCA was reluctant to use those down here in those days....(there I go again)
This shot shows me approaching turn 11 at Sears Point....What it does not show is Tom Gloy(another serious Ford driver in another serious Lola)stalking me to take the eventual win....Damn...2nd place, according to Dan Gurney,is like kissin' yer sister...It doesn't do anything for ya....
The other Lola in the background ran into a rabbit on his(very fast) approach to turn 10, and he fetched up along the exit wall tossin' grass, car parts, and bloody bunny bits everywhere.
He's contemplating his skewed (now red) suspension, and watching the closing laps from a priceless vantage point......Sears Point.............................Ron
Cowboy from Hell, how much was that Mustang? It's very nice...You did mention "first wife"...
Was it one of those"What's the difference between a hurricane and an ex-wife? there is no difference-they both get the house" things?...............................Ron

Sorry to hear,man...I can imagine you hunkering down just as the big blow (and her lawyer) approached the coast....Batten down.....It's gonna be a bumpy ride.
The hurricane/ex-wife joke is yours now.....If you haven't heard it....already....Today...
You are to be commended for your present day "pouring the sauce" to 6018 rather than yourself.
Regards..................Ron

Agreed.

Standing start was very much an exception for us as well, but it made a nice opportunity for the photographer. That was a novelty race; all the points races were rolling starts.

I saw Tom Gloy race in Edmonton in a Formula Atlantic car at least once, and maybe more often. Gilles Villeneuve avenged you by winning every race in the series one year. He and Keke Rosberg were quite a show; Villeneuve's car had a big black circle on the bodywork on one side beside the driver at the end of the Edmonton race.

We had one FF driver here (Frank Terner) who just ran away from everybody. The one time I led a race was when he spun, but he caught me again before the end. Kissed the sister a lot... what's 3rd place; kissing your dog or cat?

Best real race I ever had was at Westwood in Vancouver in spring 1978. Biggest field I ever started in, with some good drivers. I battled for 5th with someone through the whole 30-minute race, passing and re-passing. Finished in 5th in front of him, unlapped, leaders out of sight, and considered it my best result ever.

Colin Tuckey won the Canadian FF championship that fall, also in a Lola. I was beating him earlier in the year, so I have always wondered how I would have done had I not dropped out in mid-summer.
There we go again,Marcus with this serendipity thing...By those late 70s, I had kinda given up racing.....to go racing...teaching racing. Just as your stint of official-dom at Edmonton, I was one of the officials for the west coast formula ford series-now paid to go to races, too...4744 road trip!.....And there is Pantera connection, too...One of the top west coast formula ford drivers and the guy to (try to) beat throughout the late 70s in his ADF was Bob Lobenberg.....He also owned at that time a 1974 Pantera GTS Silver/Black...Don't know what ever happened to him, the ADF, or the GTS, but he was FAST!!!
3rd place is probably kissin th' baby, but I know 4th place is fallin' off the podium, and kissin' your entry money/trophy/kicks/hanger-ons/sponsors........Goodbye.
Tom Gloy eventually avenged himself, taking all those Trans-Am championships with his fast Mustangs, but My favorite trick of his was watching him slide all the way from 4 to S/F at Daytona, in his IROC car.........On his roof.........bringin' sparks off that roof....which was now the floor...YEA, Tom........Wow........
Another pit shot to follow(I haven't figured out how to post multiples yet)
