The clutch on my 73 just started grabbing too quickly. Just the first time, then it seems ok. So I went to check the Adj, and noticed the slave cyl. is missing the rubber boot, and fluid (brake I assume) is leaking, although not much. The Master Cyl. was down alittle. Is there a Kit to rebuild the Slave Cyl. or is it smarter to replace it.?
Thanks.

Well, yes, sort of... most 'kits' consist of part of a FIAT kit and part of a Chevy truck kit. No one ever offered a real repair kit. Problem is, the single seal on the stock cylinder seems intolerant of much oversize. Some guys that did this fix were successful; most weren't. Seals leak from rust pits in the bore, and homing them out takes too much cast iron out for the stock seal size to work afterward. Better is the stainless steel long-throw cylinder developed by the vendors: a permanent solution that doesn't leak and works better at disengaging the clutch than a new stock cylinder, for very little more than a new stock slave.
Karl - Go down to NAPA & pick up kit #255 (Clutch Slave Kit), I don't remember how much it cost, but it wasn't much! The piston is slightly shorter than stock, but you can adjust your linkage to get the proper free play. The kit also comes with a new rubber boot, I rebuilt my slave a couple of months ago with this kit & it's been working great!!
Good Luck!

Thank you Gentlemen. The advice is always welcome, there is nothing like experience.
I went with the new Long Throw Slave Cyl. for
$129 from Marino at P.E. how can you go wrong. Its not that I don't trust rebuilt. I just don't trust doing it myself.
to much to loose. thks. again
