Use steel doughnuts. you may have to tighten them a couple times a year, but they never wear out. I tried Jacks idea of using a flat gasket but the 1/4 to 3/8 inch to pull the pipe to the header was to much angle for the muffler hanger to compensate for. I guess you could relocate the hanger. Anyway, I went to a GTS exhaust and no longer use the above setup, but it worked well for me.
In 1990, I threw away the doughnuts & went to flat gaskets with a steel center ring. Have not had a problem since, and I believe they;'re cheaper than the collapsible dounghnut besides. All muffler shops, and most good auto parts stores have them in stock (NOT Kragens or Pep Boyz)- just measure the flange size & get the gaskets that fit this size.
