Has anyone out there modified the vertical stereo slot and the ashtray / Cigarette Lighter Adapter?

Specifically, I plan to get rid of my non-working stereo and replace it with an MP3 system powered by an iPod. I'm thinking that the iPod will fit nicely into the ashtray slot (horizontally), meaning I have no need for the stock stereo slot.

Has anyone added anything cool to the vertical stereo slot? GPS? Sat radio?

Let me know if you have any cool ideas ...

Here's what I'm thinking:

- ashtray out (replaced by iPod)

- stereo out (replaced by?)

- Cig Lighter out (replaced by?)

I am a little interested in this too. I would largely like a hidden stereo system for this car and another car already done.

I put a hidden audio system in mine and the head of the unit is just a little controller which I plan to move. There is an adapter you can purchase to use an ipod or a memory stick with all your favorites. I put the stereo controller in the delete plate for the reg stereo which I don't like. I will be moving it and replacing the plate or put some more gauges in..

Why not go with the radio delete plate, it looks period correct, because it is. From what I understand all Pantera's shipped with it and the Lincoln Mercury dealers installed a radio as an option if wanted.

I've seen extra gauges and/or switches inserted that side too. I gues the ultimate is go with an aftermarket console, where you can do just about anything (See Deebs ineterior for one of the best examples I've seen)

I also remember someone posting about installing an ipod doc into the ashtray location, but I can't find the post. Does anyone else remember the post? And, were there any pics in the thread?
