Hi, I need to take off the lower springcup from my nonadjustable coilovers. It's best done in a lathe, but does the shock tolerate being spun that way?

I'm trying to picture what you want to do. Are you machining off the spring cup? If so how much is there you have to machine off? Can you cut the bulk of it off and then just turn it down to a finish?
I'm leaving a 5 mm collar to hang a new sleeve on. That way I make it adjustable. The spring now rests on a 5mm thick plate, which is thicker where it's welded to the shock. Thanks.
Should not be a problem, Keep your part cool and the speed at about 200 rpm, any faster and the centrifugal action on the rod may damage the seal or bend the rod, don't clamp to hard and damage the body & use light cuts. 30 yrs machining, hope this helps.
No, I haven't. I usually try the DeTomaso-community first, there's always good advice here. If I can do the cut at 200 rpm, there shouldn't be a problem. But thanks anyway. Great forum, great people!
Does any one know if KONI will rebuild their shocks? My 1st SHELBY had KONIs. I sent them in and they renewed them for free. JD I was sure they understood I got the same ones back.
KONI does rebuild their shocks. If you are the original purchaser and can provide your original proof of purchase/receipt, they will rebuild them for free (IIRC). If you're not the original purchaser, Koni will rebuild them at a cost of $100-$150 per shock. I don't recall the exact amount - I looked into it a couple years ago when I was looking at buying a used set on ebay. They supposedly come back looking like brand new.
