Larry commented in my thread on door latch mechanism removal that it might be better to remove the roll pin, rather than risk breaking the plastic socket end piece. Quite true, but I didn't know about that until after I had it apart. Also, the roll pin in mine was not so easy to remove. I had to make a tiny pin punch out of a wire nail, and block the lock assembly up in my vice to drive it out. To pop the socket off, I used two small blade screwdrivers, one on each side of the ball. Gently prying straight up got it off without breaking it, but still risky. Prying on one side only would almost certainly break it.

While we're on the subject, I need to get the handle pivot pin out to repair the housing and re-finish the handle. It appears to be staked in on the ends; not sure if it is hollow all the way through or not. Also, there appears to be a handle return spring around this pin, but mine doesn't work; pull on the handle and it just stays (both door handles act the same). I assume I'll need to drill out the staking on one end at least, which will probably ruin the pin. Tips or suggestions on this, anyone? Rodney

I rebuilt both my door handle and the pins were not hammered over like yours. I reused my pins. One of my plastic tubs was broken but I replaced both, (the original tub is for sale if anyone is interested). I also purchased replacement door handle springs but they seemed very stiff so I did not use them, (also for sale). The original springs seem to work with a reasonable tension but there is not much "meat" where they contact the handle and the tub. When everything is together they do fit and work ok.
