ok slowly sorting out the electrical on my 73 have been avoiding it because:
1). i had some mechanical issues
2). i suck at electrical and often do more harm that good
3). the po wired in a monster sound system and alarm and it is a mess under the dash.

issues are
a). no horn have power to relay will ck the horns themselves but if they work is the issue in the turn signal switch?
b). oil temp gauge po wired in had sensor wire clipped
i ordered an electric one to fill the hole where do i tap into 12 v?
c). no dash or gauge lights the courtesy light on all the time can i use that courtesy light wiring as power source? the is a 'plug' down by the reostat in driver side footwell w black and yellow wires coming from it but not plugged in. is that the problem?
d). no power to cigar lighter. i dont smoke but would like to power my garman or ipod. is the power to the lighter the pink wire that is not hot or the 'blue' wire that is clipped? cant get answer by pondering the wiring diagrams

thanks in advance joe

Have a look at Pantera Place, it is a great source of information. Here is a link to the wiring in the technical section. http://www.panteraplace.com/page107.htm
I like this diagram, it is partially in color. http://www.panteraplace.com/El..._pantera_diagram.pdf Smiler
There are also diagrams in Pantera Place which just focus on individual sections.
a) Does the relay click or operate? You can swap the relay with say the ac condenser fan relay. Most likely the horn itself.
b) Depends where the oil temp gauge is located in the car. If in the center console use the pink wire that is on the other gauges. You could use this wire also if the gauge is in the dash.
c) Yellow/black should go to the rheostat for the gauges, with an orange supplying power via the light switch.
d) The blue supplies the power to the lighter which should be live all the time. The orange is for its illumination bulb. The pink wire could be from the parking brake switch.
+1 On the Pantera Place Link to the electrical diagrams. If you are going to tackle wiring yourself, then there is no better teacher than OJT.

The horn issue can very well be in the switch. I had a solder connection come loose, and I would honk the horn every time I would signal a right turn Big Grin

Oil temp gauge or oil pressure? Pink is the power for all the gauges.

The yellow with a black stripe is the + power for the instrument lights. It should be plugged into the rheostat.

As a general rule, Pink is the + fused circuit power in any circuit. In the case of the cigar lighter, the blue is the +12V and the orange is the illumination for the light. Black is ground.
thanks folks will dig in today
bdud thanks, i have been on the pantera place site but missed the color diagram. the gauge was added to the center console. the relay does click. will test blue wire for power and try to find the issue w the dash lights; probably the reostat
ford gt the old sensor is in the oilpan, i think i will just replace it
dave 2811 oil temp added by po rest of guags are sw except fuel, tach and speedo
JT, the question came up a few years ago, I wa reporting 280 degrees and Bosswrench said that was WAY too high. We discussed that I was taking the reading from the sensor in the block above the fuel pump. When I put in a 10 quart oil pan I also put a sender in the oil pan. I can switch back and forth between the 2.

I then found that I was getting temps in the block of 280 degrees and in the pan of 230. Boss said this was right in line with a study he had published in POCA
Wow, that is a lesson. I struggling to accept the oil pump rotors add 50 degrees. Terrific discovery; although, I'd like to see a second test on another vehicle to back it up.

If that is true, it illuminates many potential oiling problems as most conventional oils are compromised at that temp. We may very well think that we are operating at a safe temp due to readings in the pan when we are not.
